Any GP advise....Would a broken toe always bruise?

Child's 4th toe was stood on on Wednesday. It's swollen and red, a bit warm to touch, but not visibly bruised. Pain worse Friday, and a bit worse again today.
She is a very sensitive kid in general. Has quite a low pain tolerance.
On my examinations toe nail looks fine, clean, not cracked/ingrown.
Pain is isolated to that toe, to touch and move is painful . Rest of foot unaffected.

I am trying to get through to an out of hours GP service this morning but line is busy so far this morning (In ROI). I don't have a medical card so have to pay for GP care regardless, and the state OOH is insanely under resourced, so I wouldn't even try them for this kind of thing today. But this particular OOH is a private service open every day ( I've never used it before so unsure if it's only for Emergencies) and she is pretty laid up. I wonder does she need an x-ray or to rule out any other weird swollen toe illnesses I'm unaware of!

While I keep trying could anyone advise.....I know, you can't diagnose of course, but would a broken toe always bruise purple?.....and are there any other weird toe swelling causes I should be concerned about?!

I’ve had a few broken toes. They usually go swollen, can’t bend them and are more yellow in colour for a few days until a bruise comes out. Sadly everytime I’ve broken one I’ve just been told to rest it, ice it and keep it elevated. They offered to strap it to another toe but said there wasn’t much to do really and to take pain killers and avoid exercise for a little while .

Thank you @Hiddenvoice . I was reading up a bit alright, that there's usually not much to be done other than strapping.
Maybe it is still to visibly bruise yet, or just a soft tissue. If it was my own toe I'd be more likely to just watch and wait. The pain getting worse is what is making me think just get checked and know either way.

I hope you escape any more broken toes!!

You are unlikely to break a toe by someone standing on it. The bone withstands alot of weight.
I have 500kg horses who regularly stamp on my feet. Never broken a bone that way.
Broken bones cause sudden swelling rather swelling a few hours later so more likely to be soft tissue than bone.
