Carry on bag for flights

Going on holiday for the first time in a long time this summer! Just thinking ahead as to what carry on bag would be good for the airplane?

would like it to be inexpensive, and fit with any airline regs and if at all possible have wheels?

any recommendations welcome thank you Star

I always use a rucksack. I don’t like pulling luggage through the airport and I like to keep my possessions under the seat in front.

A rucksack is a good idea actually. I’d cope with that easier than carrying with one arm.

Depends who you're flying with as to the maximum size. I prefer a bag with shoulder strap or a backpack

I like a bag with 4 wheels, if you find one with an extendable zip that's useful. I use a bag from Target in the US and would recommend but not sure you can get them here.

Please pay attention to the fact that you usually have to pay extra to take hand luggage onto the plane these days

Backpack all the way. You can get hybrid versions - they can either be carried on your back or on wheels where necessary. Cabin Max do some good ones. I have a Metz 30L hybrid that fits the EasyJet underseat rules. There is a smaller version for Ryanair, Metz 20 litre hybrid. A larger version for the overheads is also available.

Metz 30L Hybrid - 45x36x20cm

Flies free on Easyjet. The perfect size (45x36x20cm) for EasyJet’s new ‘free’ underseat cabin luggage rules. Use as a trolley or a backpack thanks to useful hybrid design. Pack more than you think into spacious 30 Litre interior. Suitcase-style opening...

Cabinmax on Amazon has been accepted with Ryanair several times

You have to pay extra? Presumably there’s some form of handbag I wouldn’t have to pay for? So it’s a question of size?

suitcase is included in hol but wanted a carry on bag for meds, spare bikini in case suitcase gets lost etc etc

Think it’s Jet2 but would like to be able to use it on other airlines for future travel.

Dh has this backpack and I have 1 like the pink bag. Both suit Ryanair which probably has the smallest free bag allowance

I used to favour the CabinMax products - but if without wheels, it was an absolute killer going with any weight as far as the distant boarding gates e.g. at Gatwick.

I’ve changed to Eastpak (though I see the price has hiked a lot - might be cheaper outlets) - 2 separate internal zipped compartments, very robust, can also hook a fabric canvas bag over the handle.

Once at the gate you can stash what you need for the flight (water/meal-deal/ipad/earphones/sunnies) into a canvas bag - get to your seat and seamlessly put the cabin bag overhead and slide in your seat with the fabric bag.

Jet 2 are very relaxed about cabin bags IME

Helenloveslee4eva · 12/01/2024 21:56

We’ve always used appropriately sized “IT” cases - the lightest ones fit volume we’ve found ( travel often to my sis in Spain handbag gage only ) . Best capacity in the ones with 2 wheels and a wide handle. 4 wheels / narrow handle compromises internal capacity

NickMyLipple · 12/01/2024 22:07

Someone else has already suggested it but I LOVE my Cabinmax bag: cabinmax
It is accepted by Wizz, Ryan Air and easyJet (who I fly with most frequently) and it's got just about enough room to carry everything for a long weekend.

If you start going down the Wheely suitcase route, you risk your bag being taken off you and paying £££ in extra bag fees 🙈

Rocknrollstar · 12/01/2024 22:29

Always check what is allowed on as hand luggage. EasyJet don’t allow a handbag and another bag. You have to be able to put your handbag in your carry on. Different airlines have different rules on the size allowed too.
