Would you pay for a subscription for someone whose already failed on previous subscription projects

I paid a lot of money to someone for a subscription. They failed to deliver anything for this request. Now I see they are once again offering a subscription for written content.
Will we get duped again? Or do we trust?

I wouldn't risk it.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!

BoohooWoohoo · 12/01/2024 09:32

No. I wouldn’t trust them
Have they refunded you for no content delivered first time round?
I would get the content from anyone but this person even if it’s more than the price promised by this person.

Is this about a social media personality duping people ?

NeptunaOfTheMermaidBattleSquadron · 12/01/2024 09:32

Why would you do that? Too many scammers using the subscription model to sell nothing at all at the moment. It's the latest BossBabe fad.

Ladyj84 · 12/01/2024 09:36

To even ask says idiot for thinking of going back

MogTheMoogle · 12/01/2024 11:38

I feel this is aimed at someone particular but I'm not sure who...

I assume this a Patreon or similar - where you pay a monthly fee for more exclusive content.

Some are better than others - I've subscribed to one, and got exactly what perks were specified in the tier - and as I really like the Youtuber in question, debating if its worth a little more this year to get more.

Others however, are less reliable at giving whats promised, and some are outright intending to take the money and run.

You'd be foolish to re-subscribe to someone that has not provided the promised items in the past (either through terrible quality or non-existent) - unless there was a particular reason they've explained, or you have some other reason to believe they'll deliver. TBH, they didn't deliver and I paid through a platform like patreon, I'd be looking at if I could get my money back rather than considering if I was going to pay more!!

No - why are you even considering it again? Genuinely asking: do you really, really want what they're purporting to offer? Did you ever chase up on the previous subscription you paid for?

RhinoRhino · 14/01/2024 09:45

Depends on your motivation and expectations.

Bit like subscribing to a gym you know you aren't going to use, if you know you will be disappointed but can afford to - and want to - hand over money anyway then why not?

If you are paying for some vague promises of content then maybe don't be surprised if there is no delivery, but if you generally like the person's ethos and want to be supportive of their 'grift' in spite of the fact you know they are all mouth and no action, then it's up to you!

I subscribe to some things I rarely even dip into these days, but love what these people do and want to continue to support.

OldBeyondMyYears · 14/01/2024 10:23

No of course not. Because I'm not stupid!

Obvs no-one in their right mind would throw more money at this person, but you’d be well within your rights to warn others about their behaviour. Probably futile to use a platform whose account actively follows said person on Twitter though, sadly…..

Well people still paid/pay ubergrifter Jack Monroe on Patreon despite nothing ever being delivered, lies about post office, and Patreon refused to do anything, referring complainants to the “creator”, who didn’t even read the emails. Even when facts about her started to come out people continued to give her money, some increasing their payments because “of all the good she does” 🙄

so people, whether not in their right minds or perhaps just slightly gullible, will continue to pay for/not complain about goods not received; those who do complain have little recourse to any reimbursement
