EBay advice

i bought something “genuine” on eBay which was clearly fake when it arrived.

I contacted eBay, who advised to return it to the seller. I did. The seller then gave me a ridiculous 50% refund so I appealed this to eBay.

eBay considered the appeal and I received an email stating they have given me a full refund and closed the case in my favour - but the app only shows that I have received a 50% refund under the “refund” section of the transaction details. Is this normal or has something else gone wrong?

After 21 years of using eBay, I have given up. The site, rules and regulations are about as transparent as a pool of mud and as for customer service, give them a script and that's it. I can only suggest that you chat with an agent on eBay and they might help. I say they might because the red tape that binds the buyers and sellers also snakes around the customer service. I sold an item earlier this week and it was a hassle all the way through. In the end, the buyer received the item then made up a fiction in motion when they claimed that the item was partly fake and not as described. They opened a case and then demanded a large part refund or they would send me the item back. And for all those people who go on about the fact that we should read the T and Cs, I would say what T and Cs? Rome had an unwritten constitution and for that reason, the powers were able to get away with everything. Similarly, there is nothing solid in eBay terms because it changes without anyone knowing. You cannot base a business on that and eBay knows it because they are after all in business themselves. Arthur Daley (Minder ITV) is live and well in 2024.

I keep getting messages in my Ebay account from what appears to be from Ebay. The message is asking for an amount of ££ for a pushchair I listed but it did not sell. Am I being thick? Is Ebay asking me to pay for trying to sell it? I thought I only paid if it sold? I did have a reserve bid so is that it?
They have my PayPal details so why not take the ££ from there? I'm confused, I've never sold on Ebay before.
They are now sending me messages about going to a debt collector. Any advice would be welcome xx

Do I pay Ebay or Ignore? I'm getting really worried they will pass my info to a debt collection agency. I'm very anxious...

It sounds like a scam @Redstar3k.
Talk to someone in customer support about it. I've found them helpful in the past.

@Redstar3k Did you have a reserve on the selling price? If so, and it doesn't sell, you do get charged. If you list without a reserve price then you don't get charged if no sale.

@Redstar3k when you login to your eBay account are the same messages in your messages' section? That's the way to check if they are genuine.

The only way you could rack up charges without selling item is if you took out pay per click promotion ads.
