How often do you wipe the basin in your bathroom?

Properly with cleaning spray and the cleaning cloth? I don't mean a hand swoosh after cleaning your teeth.

I feel like since we moved house, I'm forever cleaning the bathroom and it's never clean. The old house bathroom could last a week before it needed doing.

You know the greyish bathroom dust that smears around when you wipe it? That. There's only 2 of us using the bathroom, it's a newish extension, I don't know why it's such a struggle to keep it clean. It doesn't last 3 days!

I mean - we're both adults so we leave the loo and basin clean when we use it - no skids or toothpaste dollops left for the next person.

I'm forever getting the spray and cloths out - and it's forever covered in bathroom dust. Why? I have medium housework standards - house is always clean and visitor ready but I'm not one of those who cleans daily.

Probably every third day.

greenacrylicpaint · 11/01/2024 21:10

never (unless I mess it up during skin care/teeth brushing routine)

it's dh's job

DrunkenElephant · 11/01/2024 21:14

Daily because of that bloody dust you describe!

Its quite a new build, less than 5 years old but the bathroom always has that layer of dust, I don’t understand it!

We are in temporary rented and have gone from having 2 generous bathrooms to one tiny one for 2 adults 2 DCs. It is now constantly filthy. I wipe round everything every day and it still feels minging. A weekly quick go would do in the old house. I just can't keep on top of the concentrated filth.

LIZS · 11/01/2024 21:20

Twice a week, more if guests.

Princesspollyyy · 11/01/2024 21:24

I do it daily, because I can't stand that bathroom dust. I'm still looking for a really good cloth that doesn't leave bits behind.

Clarabellawilliamson · 11/01/2024 21:26

Do you have a toilet in your bathroom? I find toilet rolls create lots of that dust. Have you changed brands?! (But I don't have a toilet in my bathroom and I still get loads of dust)

BoilingHotand50something · 11/01/2024 21:28

I hate bloody bathroom dust. It feels like a constant battle!

LeGinge · 11/01/2024 21:28

Around twice a week in our house.

Do you have your window open a lot? That can increase dust. Or perhaps new fluffy towels in your new place?

Doggymummar · 11/01/2024 21:30

It comes off the toilet paper I think. I wipe it every time I go in there.

Houseplanter · 11/01/2024 21:31

Toilet rolls and new towels = dust

Waitingfor5pm · 11/01/2024 21:32

I hate using chemicals and usually just use water and my hands and clean it after washing my hands if there's dust etc.theb I'll wash them again.

FailingAtEverythingAgain · 11/01/2024 21:32

I clean the whole bathroom while the kids are in the bath, so once or twice a week yes they're a bit grubby. The bathtub obviously gets cleaned after they get out.

BobnLen · 11/01/2024 21:36

I have never noticed this bathroom dust but my towels are quite old. I spray scale remover round the sink every couple of weeks so I suppose that's a proper clean. It's wiped when it needs it.

Mushroomwithaview · 11/01/2024 21:44

Ahhhh. I think that's the change. The toilet roll is mounted right next to the basin. It's probably toilet roll dust.

Every day. When the men here shave they fill the sink and when the water is let out it leaves a ring of shaved hair, they think that swishing water gets rid but it doesn't

Laiste · 11/01/2024 21:53

So ... toilet roll dust ...

This is new.

We get that dust on the cistern behind our loo, so yes it's prob loo roll dust then! Fabulous. And we're breathing it in while we're sat there ...

I have a dark bathroom floor. I can confirm than toilet roll dust leaves a sprinkling under the holder.. like icing sugar.

Is a massive pain cos to look good it needs hoovering at least daily

MenorcaMarguerite · 11/01/2024 21:57

Daily as part of my morning routine. Doesn't really need it daily but it's easier to remember. 😀

KnittedCardi · 11/01/2024 21:59

Once a week. I don't have toilet roll holders..... Maybe that helps!

MrsMarzetti · 11/01/2024 22:01

At least 5 times a week.

Agreed. Andrex is the worst for this.

JustwantacupfT · 11/01/2024 22:03

Every day... I think small bathrooms get that horrible dark dusk much more quickly. Our bathroom is cramped. Also I don't know what the heck my husband does in there (and I don't ask!) but the mirror always needs cleaning after he has used it. It never looks all spattered like that after I've used it! So yeah I do the sink and mirror daily and the a more detailed clean every week.

Hmmmbetterchangethis · 11/01/2024 22:04

I have my own en-suite and I‘m the only one who uses it.
It’s starting to look slightly grubby when the cleaner comes fortnightly.

The sink in my DH’s bathroom makes me feel ill to look at it after about 5 days or so, so I never go in there.
By the time the cleaner comes, his looks like some kind of nuclear disaster zone. Truly grim!

I’ll never share a bathroom again!!! I digress………

OceanicBoundlessness · 11/01/2024 22:40

Less often than I would.
We use soap bars and that tends to mean it gets more scummy than with liquid soap.
Love the description of bathroom dust.
