Recommend me a London restaurant with spectacular views….

Hi there,

DH and I are going to London in April for our wedding anniversary and would like to go somewhere with a stunning view over the water for Dinner/lunch. DH loves a good steak and I like most fish or pasta dishes.

We want to enjoy a relaxed atmosphere but with excellent service. I’m picturing low lighting, pianist, private tables for a more intimate feel and of course the view! Any suggestions?

TIA x

Duck and Waffle is fantastic for breakfast, not so much for later in the day. The ride up in the lift is something else also.

Seabird on Blackfriars Road if you like seafood. Beautiful restaurant.

Not your brief for views over the water but a very cool view of kings cross station and a really “sexy” restaurant is Decimo in the Standard hotel. For more expansive London views you could also check out Seabird, but I have heard that the service here slightly suffers as it’s such a great spot. I agree with other posters that perhaps you should do a drink with a view and then have dinner at a really fabulous restaurant rather than try to have dinner with a view as I think most places with amazing views are kind of tourist traps or at least make slightly less effort as they know people will come regardless of experience as the view is great.

Loved the views at the Sky Garden, but boy, was it noisy. We couldn't hear each other!

@Plumpciousness we had a table on the terrace and it was fabulous (as was the view).

For food only I’d go to Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental - but the view (if you have the right table) is just a bit of Hyde Park though!

None have views, but if you’re going somewhere with a view for a drink and then looking elsewhere for food then I’d recommend Hawksmoor for steak. The one on Air Street has great fish too.

Just a word of warning, if either of you have any issue with heights some of these restaurants can make you feel quite wobbly. I've struggled at City Social and Duck and Waffle, all my instincts are to lie flat on the floor - not conducive to romance 😂

I quite like the Oxo Tower and Galvin at Windows is fantastic but actually Id recommend going for cocktails with a view and then picking a restaurant that has more atmosphere of it's own, like Clos Maggiore.

I really wish they'd open up the revolving restaurant at the top of the BT Tower again.
