Chicken food poisoning, help!

Do I think I've just eaten some under cooked chicken.
I was cooking a tray of chicken thighs for 45 mins. Took one of and cut it in half, decided to put it in 5 more mins. Took it out and put it on the plate with a couple others and let it cool. Ate it.
Went back to the plate and saw pink fluid coming out of another which was a little pinkish on the middle, hard to tell with thighs! Put it back in for ten mins. Pink had gone.

Absolutely freaking out now about the one I ate. I'm hoping because I opened it up and cut it in half it might be ok but realise this is probably not the case :(

Anyone here had food poisoning from chicken? When should o expect to see signs?
I suffer severely from emetophobia, of which I'm currently receiving therapy for.
Feel like crying :(

I ate it about an hour ago.

Jeezo, you'll be absolutely fine.

E
I hope so but I have heard horror stories about undercooked chicken!

Chicken thighs should be easily cooked in 45 minutes!

This is what I thought but one definitely had pink fluid coming out. I saw it as it was in a white plate :(

Undercooked chicken doesn’t necessarily mean food poisoning.

GoGoGoFigureItOut · 10/01/2024 20:29

I had food poisoning from chicken a few years ago and symptoms came pretty quickly (within the hour after eating). They lasted a good few hours too, unfortunately!

coloursquare · 10/01/2024 20:31

Chicken thigh meat is darker - perhaps you saw the liquid against the darker pink. Anyway, you'll know soon enough, but I'm sorry it's fine.

PuppyMonkey · 10/01/2024 20:32

45 minutes, blimey I think they’d be overcooked if anything.

sprigatito · 10/01/2024 20:32

You'll probably be fine; poisoning from undercooked chicken is a risk, not a guaranteed outcome. I've had campylobacter from chicken twice, both times I felt ill within an hour or two of eating.

Sympathy, emetophobia is awful to live with. Try to distract yourself for a few hours if you can, until you feel like you're in the clear and can relax.

It could be a few hours to a few days.

The likelyhood of the food being uncooked is very slim though

Treat yourself to a meat thermometer. Takes the guess work out of cooking

mintmagnum3 · 10/01/2024 20:38

Thank you for the replies!
The fluid was definitely pink and I honestly was so shocked as I cook chicken a lot and have never undercooked before 🤷🏼‍♀️
I know I may sound as though I'm over reacting... but as a single parent who suffers, almost dabilitatingly so, from emetophobia, I can't control how I react to this... well I'm trying my best!

Campylobacter usually takes days!

Inkanta · 10/01/2024 20:39

Yes I think you can feel symptoms of nausea and chills quite quickly with chicken poisoning. Starting within an hour sometimes.

Bakedbeansandtoast · 10/01/2024 20:41

I'm an emetophobe too and completely sympathise. Honestly, as PP says, treat yourself to a meat thermometer - this is the first time in 12 years that I've consistently not been serving up burnt/dried up food in the hopes we'll avoid food poisoning.

Hopefully you'll be fine! You could take activated charcoal if you're worried?

SnowsFalling · 10/01/2024 20:43

50 mins on what temperature? I'd be surprised if it wasn't cooked unless very low or maybe in a big tray bake with loads of other stuff and not much air space.

Undercooked chicken has a very distinct texture. Did it feel right when you bit into it?

sprigatito · 10/01/2024 20:45

@sondot it certainly didn't for me! I was 7 months pregnant the second time, so remember it rather vividly. It was confirmed as campylobacter by stool sample testing.

planetarynoodle · 10/01/2024 20:47

How hot was the oven?

VerbenaGirl · 10/01/2024 20:52

Do you drink? If so, I’m sure I effectively remedied undercooked chicken with a decent helping of red wine not all that long ago. Also remember, it’s not a foregone thing.

mintmagnum3 · 10/01/2024 20:56

It was about 180 in tan assisted. It was on for 45 mins. I honestly thought they were cooked... but I, like I said, the pink fluid.... was absolutely pink!

I'll be getting a thermometer when I get paid!

I feel ok... tummy just bubbly 🥴

I made a soup with raw chicken 2 days ago and I was so tired I only realised after eating a bowl that I hadn't followed the recipe properly as it had cooled half way so I definitely hadn't heated the chicken long enough . So far I haven't come down with food poisoning but it did taste disgusting

YorkshireLondonMiss · 10/01/2024 21:20

Feel your pain with emetophobia - I had food poisoning from a bbq once (suspect FIL !) from chicken and had campylobacter. It didn’t show up for a few days and if reassuring, didn’t involve any vomiting just bad tummy cramps and not being able to get off the loo. Like a previous poster said you’re not guaranteed to get sick of it was undercooked but it sounds like after 45 mins you’d have killed off any bacteria even if a bit pink!

thighs are always a bit tricky anyway because they tend to look more pink/brown than breast meat. I’m sure you’re fine :)

Bakedbeansandtoast · 11/01/2024 12:40

How are you OP?

mintmagnum3 · 11/01/2024 17:45

That so for all the messages and thanks for checking in @Bakedbeansandtoast .

I work up during the night and my tummy was churning.... ALOT.
Thankfully I've been ok today but I am worried about the clampy..... whatever it's called (🙈) which can take a couple days to show! Just hoping I can put it to the back of my mind and forget about it until I'm out of the 2-5 days!

Thanks again.
