Top Madonna songs on Radio 2 - anyone else listened to this?

Great countdown, I really enjoyed it and wasn't too surprised at No 1. I'm now watching her 85 tour on Youtube - I was a massive fan but she's not actually a very good singer or dancer when you look back. That said she was incredibly cool and inspiring for a young teen, there was nobody like her - not in my small town world anyway. It's sad that she's felt the need to change so much over the years.

Top 3 Madonna songs? Mine would be Crazy for You, Like a Prayer and Into the Groove in no particular order.

Open your heart, Rain, Rescue Me - I think… Into the Groove & Crazy for You also up there. I love the whole Ray of Light album, I quite liked Music but hated Confessions and everything since.
So many good songs - I’m 48 so grew up with her, massive influence in my life.

I am the same age as you and agree about the Ray of Light album! I think it's one of my favourite of hers. I saw her live in concert in Nice, during her Blonde Ambition tour and it was amazing.

Top songs:

La Isla Bonita
Oh Father
Frozen

notacooldad · 10/01/2024 21:46

My top three
Hung Up
Beautiful Stranger
Ray of Light.

Brightandbubly · 10/01/2024 21:51

Into the groove
Frozen
Borderline

Haven't listened to show but assume this is the same list

Meredusoleil · 10/01/2024 22:08

Just remembered another one that I love from Ray of Light: The power of goodbye 😍

Whiskeypowers · 10/01/2024 22:24

Like a Prayer
Music (the Confessions tour live disco inferno version)
Erotica (the Confessions tour live version)

she was an amazing dancer

peoplearepeople · 10/01/2024 22:35

Who's that girl?
Into the groove.
Like a prayer
Frozen
Oh Father
Open your heart
Dress you up
Causing a commotion

Are the favourites that spring to mind. Am sure there are so many more though, and am always so surprised when I listen to her ballads album just how strong they are.
I think 80's and early 90's Madonna is just amazing and it takes me right back to that time when I hear the songs from that time. After that I probably only liked a handful of songs. I did love hung up though. 😀

peoplearepeople · 10/01/2024 22:36

Just realised I listed way more than 3! Honestly don't think I can narrow it down. 😆

buzzy1 · 10/01/2024 22:40

My top 3 would be :
1.Material Girl, 2. Dress you up 3. Holiday

MerryMidwinter · 11/01/2024 06:57

I used to love dressing like her - the lace gloves and crop tops, mini skirts over leggings, tons of bangles and a big crucifix.

Her’s was my first ever concert - Roundhay Park, Leeds in the mid 80s, think it was the Who’s that Girl tour. Then I saw her again at Wembley for Blonde Ambition but she felt much slicker and more manufactured then although still a great show.

StoatofDisarray · 11/01/2024 07:05

WhichPage · 11/01/2024 07:40

I too was at the Roundhay Park concert … probably in my fingerless lace gloves!

Oh, so many. At the time she came out I was a cool teenager and wasn't interested; now I look back and just enjoy the great songs and
nostalgia for better days. And as I'm an old fart I think: "I wish music was still like that... it's so crap now"

My top three would be:
Borderline
Ray of Light
Beautiful Stranger

MerryMidwinter · 11/01/2024 22:08

It struck me how polished and slick today’s performers are compared to her in her early days - she became more so later on but in the ‘85 tour her dancing is pretty basic. Still loved her though!

I grew up on Madonna cassette albums, True Blue was the first album I ever bought. I had lace gloves and string of beads. It’s very hard to pick 3 favourite songs as they change all the time, but my top 3 right now are:

Miles Away
Bad Girl
Cherish (ultimate happy song)
