Where could my dental mouthguard for TMJ be?

Hello MNers,

I am maddened by the fact that I have misplaced a dental mouthguard, which I only collected about 3 weeks ago. I have absentmindedly put it somewhere and I have been actively looking/keeping an eye out for over 2 weeks.

(Yes I know, I have been going through a lot of stress lately and I should have put it straight back into it's box, but didn't)

I really want to find it, but think I'll have to ask for another one (and get over the embarrassment of (indadvertently) hiding it in my own house)

It's probably residing where my lost two over the years have disappeared to. Sorry that's no help!

Still no sign of it. How long should I keep on looking, I wonder..... I think I'll just have to give it a few more days, and hopefully it will turn up when I least expect it. The only other thing I can think is it went down the loo and has been accidentally flushed....

Thanks all for your suggestions. It's just so maddening, as it is newly made (a replacement for an old one, which my teeth had moved, so it needed redoing)

I went through the NHS. It's just a silicone mouth guard that is moulded to my top teeth. I would never pay that much, as the NHS one works. It takes a while to get used to it though. I think your option is very expensive. What exactly do you get for that?

The NHS provides mouthguards? I think my lad kid has TMJ but never been diagnosed, but self researched. How do you go about getting diagnosed and getting the mouth guard please? Does it help? Thanks

My story is, I was initially diagnosed by a private dentist a long time ago. The NHS dentist would do the same. They will look at your bite, and if you have regular check-ups they will see if you have actually worn teeth down (mine was obviously a problem) But I have to admit, I don't think the NHS dentist picked up on it as easily as the private one. If your son has signs of damage (worn away enamel for example, why not just ask them. I think the NHS will only treat something if it is seen to be a problem (I'm not actually sure if this is true?) Maybe an NHS dentist or someone would correct me if I am wrong? ? You need to tell them that you are concerned about it and ask them to investigate, I would say? ? ? That would be my advice. Ask the dentist and explain your concerns.

I found mine months after losing it, on top of my wardrobe 😁 I absolutely hated wearing it and often removed it in my sleep, but usually only left it in the bed or on the bedside table. I could only presume I'd removed it, maybe whilst having an active dream, and thrown it high and hard up on to the wardrobe!

😂😂

I haven’t checked up there. Maybe it’s there!

Thank you so much. I'll give that a try Smile
