Trying to help friend. Notified that sample was invalid.
Hand warmed with hot water bottle , standing up as advised, arms waved, fists clenched and unclenched.
I found it really hard to get the drops into the little sample case .
Please help we're due to try again soon.

HEP as in hepatitis?

Chug water like it's going out of fashion. Exercise, get stressed, get the heart rate up.

You're going to have to be mean and really wring that finger out.

Is it a sh test?

Is getting a private phlebotomist to take a venous sample an option, or does it need to be blood from the finger tip?

We ended up paying £70 to have a sample taken from DH who is seemingly unable to bleed from his fingertips. I think Superdrug and other pharmacy chains might offer a cheaper service (he needed it for work and had run out of time at the point - so no time to shop around!)

Yes , hepatitis.
Friend had hepatitis 40(!!) years ago and is wondering if it could possibly have re-emerged and be the cause of long standing , low level ill health.
Test is free online from NHS now.

Thanks @Mammillaria ( and @Grimchmas ).
We do have a very good pharmacy near us , they might help I think.

I had to do it 3 times on different fingers last time as I couldn't get enough from one to fill the test tube

Lots of water, like a good 1.5 litres in the hour before the test.

Warm hands, movement, patience. But water is the main thing.

When in doubt, just get the GP or sexual health clinic to do it.

@Copen have you any advice on positioning the case? I'm thinking once I've done the finger prick it's going to be better if she holds the tube rather than me,

She should do either the finger prick or hold tube, it's hard for you to do both. I did my own and the blood came out really fast (but then stopped) so it was just trying to catch it in time. I did miss the tube a bit.

Thanks @Copen .
