Any camper Van owners? Gift help

YouAttentionSeekingTrippleARatedFuckwit · 09/01/2024 23:33

Relative has a recently converted van. They have camped on sites on the wilder side, so no hook up, and are now able to go and spend weekends on someone’s field.
If you were to camp relatively wild, what item would you need and like to receive? I’m trying to find a useful, but nice, gift for someone who’s had a rough time.
Budget £30-£50 absolute max, although something towards the lower end would be great.
TIA.

A nice blanket, those teddy fleece ones are lovely and warm and reasonably priced, if you fancy something handmade there are usually a few nice ones on ebay and etsy

YouAttentionSeekingTrippleARatedFuckwit · 10/01/2024 08:45

I hadn’t thought of a blanket, I assumed they’d have all that stuff but something to snuggle in could be nice, so thanks for the suggestion.
I was thinking there would be a marvellous life changing gadget that people found they couldn’t live without so wasn’t thinking of comfort.
thanks

My stuff I couldn't live without in that price range;
Ridgemonkey - use it all the time
Packing cubes
Cushions ( personalised) are always welcome
Quick dry towels
Travel journal
Subscription to Britstops? I've cancelled mine tbf, but I know some people like them
Scratch off map of UK - love mine, spurs me on!

You can get blankets that fold into cushions which are useful according to a similar gift recipient I have got things for - also Rubbastuff Pacmat with ground pegs and tablecloth clips so it can be used for either, and SmartHouse magnetic hooks so you can add somewhere to hang up clothes etc when needed

Forgottenmyphone · 10/01/2024 09:08

A micro fibre towel from here www.cycologygear.co.uk/collections/towels
Outwell Collaps kettle
Bo Camp picnic set in a pouch

shreknjumps · 10/01/2024 14:13

Clip on dimmable lights!

YouAttentionSeekingTrippleARatedFuckwit · 10/01/2024 15:57

Ooh lots of ideas.
Brilliant, thank you all. I will be googling them all later to decide.

Hot water bottle in a nice cover.
Dehumidifier (reusable mini sack).

HereLiesBetelgeuse · 10/01/2024 16:10

Ridge monkey.

Blankets etc are all personal taste, when space is at a premium, small useful things earn their keep. Ridge monkey all day long. The compact one with the tools and bag is around £25. You can cook on camping stove or open fire with them

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 10/01/2024 16:10

If I was the recipient (and I have a motorhome that I can use off grid) I would love an off the ground firepit that has a grill on to cook food. You can get plenty within that price range.

Darklane · 10/01/2024 16:20

Stainless steel thermos flask to make drinks in for when travelling between sites, unbreakable unlike the glass lined ones.
picnic wine glasses ( unbreakable) & a bottle of wine.
Is it a smaller camper a like the VW ones or a bigger motorhome? Makes a big difference to how much you can fit in, internal space & number of facilities onboard.
Mine’s a motorhome but my son has the VW so know just a little of its limitations.
A 12 volt electric kettle.
12 volt toaster
Disposable barbecue
Wellingtons for wet grass sites
One of those torches that you can click through for different uses

fozwomble · 10/01/2024 16:22

Less of a necessity and more about making the most of being in wild areas this one... Bat detector! I got one after doing a bat walk and love sitting out at dusk, listening to bats and working out where they are and what species they are. Random but cool gift for anyone into wildlife. Think mine was about 50 quid from RSPB or a bat protection charity.

Betteroutdoors · 10/01/2024 16:41

Ridgemonkey, Pacmat and blankets that fold into cushions have already been mentioned but are ace.

So I'll throw in fold up fire pit or fun solar lights for outside

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 10/01/2024 16:43

@fozwomble and that is my DPs birthday present sorted !

shreknjumps · 10/01/2024 17:15

Bat detector! Brilliant 🤩

Brahumbug · 10/01/2024 18:06

Have a look on campfiremag.com
There are some brilliant items on there.😁

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/01/2024 18:07

A Kelly kettle.

That was really confusing -it’s co.U.K. There is a .com but that’s a home and lifestyle page about apartments in Sydney Grin

Lots of amazing suggestions, thank you all so much.
I would be thrilled with a bat detector but I’m not sure it’s quite her thing. I’m debating between a Luminoodle rope lights thing I saw on campfiremag and an off ground fire pit with grill…and a cushion.
Its a small van and I’m not sure what she has wrt kettle/grill/toaster or whatever so won’t go in that direction.

Huge thanks, you’ve all been a big help.

@YouAttentionSeekingTrippleARatedFuckwit

Oops, sorry about that 😁. Glad you Found the right site. Bloody autocorrect!😂

shreknjumps · 10/01/2024 21:19

I wouldn't do a cushion for a small van. Cushions are really personal and she probably already has her favourites. Lights are brilliant though and the scratchmap idea too

weaselwords · 10/01/2024 21:50

I bloody love our solar powered fairy lights for our camper 😍

YouAttentionSeekingTrippleARatedFuckwit · 10/01/2024 22:49

Noted about the cushion, I will avoid -thanks.
