Absolutely, you can. Add a packet of crumble mix and away you go! (Of course, this is not what I've ever done all the time ever...)

You're a legend!!!!! I'm so doing this. My husband will fair with shock when I stroll in with my trio of crumbles 😂😂😂

What's the best crumble ingredients? Are oats allowed? Or just flour, sugar, marg?

coxesorangepippin · 09/01/2024 23:14

They do crumble mix?

Chasingsquirrels · 09/01/2024 23:21

I use half flour / half oats, brown sugar and melted butter stirred in. Plus cinnamon, nutmeg & ginger.

I had no idea you could buy crumble mix either, and it is so quick to make your own anyway.

I pick blackberries in the autumn and freeze them. I do a crumble with a couple of tins of pears and a couple of handfuls of blackberries scattered over, then the crumble mix.

add Demerara sugar to your crumble mix for extra crunch!

Make up a pack of Greens lemon pie filling mix using the juice from a tin of pineapple chunks, chuck in pineapple chunks cover in crumble. Serve with ice cream.

If you have half a jar of mincemeat left over from Christmas, it goes very well with tinned pears in a crumble.

Tinned peaches and apricots seem to be the best, but I have been known to make assorted crumbles with tinned strawberries, pineapple, mandarin oranges and fruit cocktail before now. Separately, not all together - that would be too much!

mrsfollowill · 09/01/2024 23:46

I shouldn't have opened this thread Grin
Crumble mix has been around for ever I had forgotten - so easy (although really easy to make your own too!)
We'll be having crumble and custard this week- just the thing for this cold snap.

I love proper 'comfort food' when it's cold out- did a full on from scratch cottage pie tonight and was bliss! Hate the clean up with the multiple pans/dishes but it was worth it.

BetrayedAuntie · 09/01/2024 23:48

Ugh no I got tinned apple once and it was vile! All the tough bits left in and the texture was horrible. Personally I think it's worth the cost of the Bramley apples and the effort of peeling & chopping.

Hell yeah….😊 and thanks, I am dieting so my days of crumble scoffing are temporarily suspended. Beautiful ideas in this thread…

This sounds amazing

Cool the crumble mix separately and heat up your fruit separately then sprinkle your crumble mix on top and your tinned fruit won't be soggy

superstar63 · 10/01/2024 12:18

What is a good make of packet crumble topping?

I've done pear & chocolate crumble (cocoa powder in the mix) as well which goes well together.

Ooh that sounds nice .

supercatlady · 10/01/2024 17:05

Tinned pear works well with fresh/frozen/tinned raspberries in a crumble. I think on its own it might be too sweet.

LlynTegid · 10/01/2024 17:06

Seems OK to me. Just hope the crumble is not with the texture of that I had at university, which could have been patented as glue.

Camarthen67912 · 10/01/2024 17:07

I quite often use frozen fruit in mine too!

SequentialAnalyst · 10/01/2024 17:16

It takes only seconds to make crumble mixture in a food-processor. And not that much longer to rub in by hand.

My small processor (came with stick blender) makes enough for a small crumble, for a whole tin of drained peach slices in a small pie dish, and does me 2 portions.

Thanks for the thread - I feel some crumble-making coming on!

Elderflower14 · 10/01/2024 17:27

If you have any mince pies left add themntp to the topping.
I made Jamie's Christmas Crumble on Christmas Eve!
