Blood in Poo, Worried. 😢

Had quite hard poo all my life, used to have spotting on toilet paper after straining. But it was always nippy and I always assumed it was a cut.

Was given Laxido from the GP. Took it for a month, changed diet to more fibre. Blood is there but its actually inside the poo and it's normally got some mucus in with it. There's not loads of it, but it's not bright like it was when coming from the fissure. It's just like normal blood, not very dark but not bright and fresh. On the tail end of the poo, or in the cracks. I know this is TMI but I inspected my poo and there was the blood and mucus actually in the cracks of it. Sorry I know that is hideously descriptive 🫣

It's happening with every bowel movement. I'm having stomach cramps in the mornings and when I need to go, I really need to go. Even though when I do go, it's chunky formed poo, no diarrhea.

It flares up badly on my period.

Anyway, it's been really hard to get to the GP. They've been at full capacity every day and I've to try again tomorrow AM.

Just a bit worried and unsure what to ask for.

Forgot to say, I woke up today with 3 mouth ulcers and I'm now worrying myself sick.

Hi OP sorry you haven't had replies yet. I had some awful bleeding last year. Happened a few times. Had stool sample checked and came back clear of anything. My mum has chrons so I was worried it was that. There's so so many reasons you have blood in a stool. Inflammation in the colon or ibd. None are pleasant but not the awful thing we would really worry about seeing blood. I hope you get checked soon and reassured. Honestly it's happened to so many of my friends and family and none have turned out to be untreatable xxx

Sorry forgot to say mouth ulcers could mean your run down with stress of worrying. The doctor should be able to give you a full health check xx

Please don't worry overly just yet but it's sensible to get checked out . Can you call GP & say that you have tried for several days without success and say what the situation is ? If not do you have a local walk in centre ? Hopefully get the ball rolling & reassure you .

I’m sorry this has been happening OP. If you’re not able to get one of your GP emergency appointments, you might be able to call 111 and get an appointment at a local Urgent care centre instead.

Get checked out but it sounds like either piles or IBS. Don’t worry. I had an incident last year where blood was literally pouring out of my back passage, couldn’t get it to stop for several minutes. Turned out to be nothing life threatening.

My husband had similar, he was sure he had bowel cancer and told me very clearly he was not going to have any treatment. By the time he had his colonoscopy, I was ready to lose my mind. Turned out to be a simple polyp, fixed on that day. Would have driven home if I'd let him, ate an enormous chippy tea. Never mentioned it since

Just keep persisting and be clear you need an appointment. Explain to the GP you need an appointment and have kept trying to no luck. Otherwise 111 and they may be able to book you in somewhere I believe. Say to GP / 111 what you have said here and explain you just want to ensure this is checked to rule out anything sinister and as appropriate get any follow up advice / medical care.

I had blood in my poo and was referred on the 'two week' pathway. It took longer than that, but at least I was seen.
If you're having no luck with an appointment through the usual channels, I'd ask to speak to the practice manager. Or try 111 and see if thry can help you get seen.
Try not to worry too much in the meantime. I bet more often than not, it turns out to be nothing serious. It certainly wasn't in my case.

Three of those are symptoms of Crohn's disease (I have it): blood, mucus & mouth ulcers. I'd get it checked out if I were you.

Thank you so much for your supportive replies. I've ended up calling in sick today at work, I'm so weak and tired and I've had bowel movements and blood this morning. My DH is taking me to GP practicing for them opening and I'm hoping I get an appointment if I go in and speak to them face to face. If not, I think I'll wait until 6 and calm out of hours, which I hate doing as I know they are busy but I just really feel I need to be seen now.

Thanks everyone. Been referred to colorectal at the hospital and have bloods early next week.

My concern now is I think I might be pregnant and you can't have a colonoscopy if you're pregnant (I think)? I'm hoping they'll still give me one. Just want peace of mind.

Good luck with it all. Hope it's nothing serious & they can sort you out.
