No local connection to any housing

Hello I have been in hospital for 21 months and my care team are looking at slowly discharging me with speaclist support to the area I am in. The council have said I can't be on the council housing list here due to not having a local connection as being in hospital doesn't count. I have been NFA for the whole 21 months I have no local connection to any area due to being in hospital so long. The hospital have not really come across this problem before and are getting some advice. I'm just stressed it's one thing after another. Any advice ?

Can you say why you need 3 bed? That's very unlikely to be achievable

2:1 overnight care perhaps?

3 bed needed due to medical need and social circumstances

Unless you have kids you won’t get a 3 bedroom as you definitely don’t need it. 2 bedroom possibly but not 3

The housing team will assess housing requirement based on Op’s personal situation. Others don’t decide.

if you need 3 bed and are assessed at that then local housing allowance would usually cover this. There are other benefits that might help as well. Please do ensure you access the help you need to ensure you can pay your rent and still have money to eat.

MPs can do a lot of pushing, but no one can magic up a 3 bed, so it may not be quick. Good luck 👍

Thank you deffintly need a 3 bed and when I first made council housing application they agreed and I was on the list but lowest band for 3 beds. Now I'm only really waiting on housing hospital gave me a letter to push up the banding (as I was bed blocking) this is when they've turned round and said it isn't a local connection being in hospital I've showed that bank, electrol role and gp are all in this area, given evidence from hospital about care being in this area and said about having no local connection to any other area.

I will contact shelter tommrow but I'll see what they say it may all be fine but it's just a worry ontop of everything else

Yes I didn't think 117 did housing costs.

Ask about S117 plus. May I ask which area you are in?

overthehill23 · 09/01/2024 22:30

Not heard of 117 + I'm in east lancashire

overthehill23 · 15/01/2024 17:55

Thank you. Top band and they've accepted for a 3 bed as well. The hospital were a real help. I grew up in foster care and have never had true stability I can't wait
