Which is best for anxiety please?
Can you recommend any brands & what dose do you take?
Any contraindications as I take Thyroxine & HRT ( all 3 hormones).
Thank you. 😊

You'd be best to speak to your GP or pharmacist about contraindications, not rely on Internet strangers....

I take St John's Wort daily and find it better than sertraline or citalopram for anxiety and low mood. Fewer side effects as well.

Brand etc I don't think makes any difference, it's whatever brand is on Amazon for me as I have it on a monthly delivery! Dose - 1 tablet per day of whatever the SJW dosing is. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Whlist I have used both at different times I won't make recommendations - we are all different, I have found both useful in different ways.

I do, however argue against pp, GPs, unless they have a particular interest, have little to no experience of St John's Wort or Ashwaghanda. As far as I know, there are no contraindications to taking both. Having said that, you wouldn't know which if any was helping.

Both are well trialled supplements and, in most cases, totally safe. Online research will help you make your own choice. GPs are great but have little (if any) training in non drug interventions

Just to throw another in the mix, I've tried pretty much everything over the years and the best by far to manage anxiety symptoms for me was Rhodiola

I liked St John's wort. X

Do check with pharmacist for the meds as St John's Wort DOES come with contraindications and can make other meds less effective

St John's Wort will not interfere or interact with the two medications you say you're on. In Germany their equivalent to GPs are permitted to prescribe it for mild depression.

However if you were to go to the doctor's and they prescribed a pharmaceutical antidepressant you must not take St John's Wort with it and you should tell the doctor that you have been taking it. You would need to give it at least a week to wash out of your system before you start taking the ADs. Otherwise you have a real risk of developing serotonin syndrome.

Solgar, A.Vogel, Schwabe Pharma (from Holland and Barrett) are all reputable makes but expensive. H&B and Boots do their own which are the same strength.
