Spots? Bites? What are these?

My 6yr old has a few sets of these... about four sets of two in these kind of patterns on his back and stomach. I'm a bit baffled. Some are not raised at all, so totally flush like a birth mark, and some are a tiny bit raised but not like a proper spot or bite.

He has had chicken pox so I know it's not that.

We have cats who do have the occasional flea, but they are treated... and no one else has bites (and I in particular am - excuse the pun- cat nip for fleas and I haven't had anything). We haven't been anywhere where there were other animals who might have had fleas. That said, flea bites is my top guess right now.

Any other insect (gnat or whatever) seems fanciful in an English winter.

He has been a bit under the weather with a coldy thing that we've all had (that definitely wasn't Covid, I tested him) so maybe it's a viral rash? But it's not rashy really, it's several little isolated pairs/clusters. And anyway he had pretty much recovered from that by the time they seemed to develop yesterday afternoon.

He says they don't itch.

They're about the size of an eraser on top of a pencil, maybe a bit smaller.

So, geniuses of Mumsnet - what am I looking at? I'd appreciate any ideas. Obviously I will seek medical advice if they get worse/linger, but I'm hoping on a Sunday night you lot might have some wisdom to share.

TIA.

They look like flea bites to me.

Thanks @BenjaminBunnyRabbit - that's my hunch. I'm going to give the cats an extra dose of their flea stuff. Weird he says that they don't itch though.
