Vinted postage

I've bought lots of clothes on vinted but I'm new to selling. I've sold two items yesterday and both chose "in post lockers". I'd never heard of it before and when I've checked my nearest one is a few miles away and I don't drive....

Would it be bad etiquette to send via royal mail instead? I'm so confused

Then you will need to pay postage as the buyer has paid your label already. I would probably let the order cancel or if there’s a way to cancel and relist clearly stating for the buyer not to select Inpost as there’s none nearby…

Hellocatshome · 07/01/2024 19:07

You can change the postage methods you allow in your settings somewhere. If you send it via Royal Mail now you would have to pay the postage as the buyer has already paid for postage via In Post Locker.

Swifty1newmama · 07/01/2024 19:08

Go into your settings and change to the options you’d be happy using locally
you could cancel the sale but may get bad feedback unless you explain clearly to the buyer that you don’t have the option for postage selected

You have to select in your settings what delivery options you are happy to do.

I love the Inpost lockers because they are available 24/7 and I have 2 in walking distance but obviously if you struggle to get to one it's not ideal for you.

Do you have a corner shop nearby? My local Nisa does Yodel which is an option.

As pp said check your setting ASAP before selling anymore items

You can change your preferences for postage in your account and choose postage options convenient for you. Too late for this time though I think.

Thanks for the replies. I'll send by Royal Mail but will message the buyers to let them know. I'm happy to pay postage and I'll put it down as a lesson learnt.

If I were you I'd explain the situation to the buyers and ask if they're happy to cancel the order and rebuy using another postage option. If you do this, make sure you select buyer agrees when cancelling or you might get automatic bad feedback.

If I'm honest, I don't think people usually opt for RM postage as it's more expensive. Have you checked Evri to see if there's any local to you (usually they're in the corner shop). I personally find this the most convenient as the label can be printed in store. Yodel or DPD might also be an option for you though.

As PPs have said, go into your settings and deselect any postage methods that aren't convenient for you.

Elderberrybabe · 07/01/2024 19:13

I've changed my postage settings. Thanks all for the advice.

If you do this, vinted won't be able to track the delivery and therefore if it goes missing you wouldn't be able to claim. It would also mean, if the buyer is untrustworthy, they can claim it was never received and you'll be left with no choice but to refund as vinted won't be able to confirm (unless of course, you get tracked postage).

There's no security for you via royal mail, the buyer can say 'not received' and you'll need to refund them. You'll also need to pay the postage out of your own pocket as the buyer has already paid for in-post.

Personally if I paid for in-post and the seller just decided to send via royal mail instead I wouldn't be very happy.

Elderberrybabe · 07/01/2024 19:22

I've messaged both buyers and explained that I'm happy to pay postage with tracking.
And as I said I'll put it down as a lesson learnt 😊

I had issues where the drop off place changed opening hours through Christmas/New Year and I missed it a couple times because I was at work, they sent me a message saying that unless the parcel was shipped by X time and date the transaction may be cancelled - I did get it sent within the time frame so I'm not sure what the options are after that point, but maybe make sure Vinted are aware you're using a different method to send as they could cancel the order if they think you haven't sent it.

Passthecoffee · 07/01/2024 19:23

If you send by Royal Mail the tracking on vinted won't update and the buyer can get a full refund. If you have an understanding buyer, message them to explain that you're cancelling the sale and reload so they can purchase with Royal Mail postage.

I got caught out when I started using vinted. Sent something by Royal Mail Instead of evri and the buyer never confirmed receipt so they got a full refund (and my item). Vinted were no help at all.

inomniaparatis · 07/01/2024 19:24

You won't be able to just send it as you won't have their address, you'll have to message them to ask for it. Personally, if I had paid for in post, I wouldn't then want to give out my address for royal mail because I always miss deliveries when at work. There's no harm in asking, but be prepared that they may cancel the order.
