What would you spend a small bonus on?

We were told before Christmas that we will be getting a small bonus, payable at end of January. Amount undisclosed as yet, will find out next week when everyone is back to work properly, but say for arguments sake, at a guess, £100‐200.

What would you do with it?

I would buy myself a lovely coat or jacket to take me into Spring.

GreatGateauxsby · 07/01/2024 16:47

Day trip to nice spa…

recklessgran · 07/01/2024 16:48

Tricky really - I guess it depends on your current circumstances. Personally I'd definitely use it for an experience of some sort such as theatre tickets, a night away, a lovely meal somwhere with DH or a steam train trip.
However, if I was broke I'd probably spend it on stocking up the cupboards and freezer but as I said it really depends on yoursituation.

Tulipvase · 07/01/2024 16:49

It would just get used for everyday stuff probably or maybe a load of wood.

But I’d be tempted to go out for a nice meal if not. That’s something that seems to make all my children happy, it’s hard to find something they all enjoy.

OceanicBoundlessness · 07/01/2024 16:50

Probably not going to help you but I would get a decent raincoat for when the festivals start up and maybe some gators as I'm sick of my trousers ending up clarted when out walking.

Andthereyougo · 07/01/2024 16:52

Depends on your situation financially.
Worried about money —- stock the larder and freezer or put it into yoyr gas/electric account.
Not worried about money — trip to a spa, beauty salon or something nice to wear.

SideshowAuntSallyx · 07/01/2024 16:53

I used mine on Christmas presents, a decent food shop, a trip to IKEA and the dentist. The rest has been eaten up by not having to worry too much about money in January (its been quite nice!).

And a Christmas tree!

Azandme · 07/01/2024 16:54

Mine is going on my botox.

OwlWeiwei · 07/01/2024 16:57

I love making that sort of bonus go as far as it can. I'd probably hunt out a theatre deal for £10-15 tickets and treat the family to a comedy show. Then buy some really gorgeous soap, bath oil or shower gel for me. If there's anything left - a food treat we don't usually have - maybe fresh berries out of season. Or some bulbs or pansies to brighten up the garden.

mrsbyers · 07/01/2024 16:59

If there’s nothing immediately springing to mind I’d save it and wait til you see something you love and then use the money

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 07/01/2024 17:01

Something that can be reused and get the most out of it eg bread maker, air fryer, new lawn mower with battery.... Cat food order for the year... Extra baggage allowance, suitcases...

If I was short of money I would save it.

Joeslaol24 · 07/01/2024 17:02

West End Show tickets.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/01/2024 17:04

Premium bonds.

reluctantbrit · 07/01/2024 17:04

If I can use it without going short anywhere else:

Restaurant I always wanted to try but out of my normal price range
Day Spa
Some clothes or shoes, electrical item, decoration, soft furnituring I want but don't need
Tickets for a show

We're skint and it probably should go on a bill but I'm sick of living like that all the time so want to do something nice with it.

I'd REALLY like to do an overnight trip to another city but we have no one to have our pets so that's out for now.

Depends hugely on your financial situation surely?

I'm planning on losing weight so clothes are out.

Trip away with the pets? we found quite a few dog friendly hotels when my grandparents were getting old and we wanted to stay near them regularly

I could be kind and tell my dh to get his iffy tooth fixed.

This is interesting, I do want my microshading topped up.

Good point about saving it, I could keep it until I go to my mums in the summer and take her somewhere lovely.

That’s what I’d do. We’ve got a dog and just choose a dog friendly hotel. Even Travelodge are dog friendly!

C1N1C · 07/01/2024 17:18

Towards a lego death star.

Riverlee · 07/01/2024 17:18

Theatre or gig tickets
takeaway

maybe treat yourself with half and save/spend on bills for the other half?

DelightfulDoris · 07/01/2024 17:24

If I were skint then… and can’t really go anywhere due to dog

I would probably have a few nice meals in and have some M&S Dine In deal.

I would also Chuck out all my crap knickers and buy new ones from Asda or Sainsburys. (Sad I know!)

Coffee and Cake on my own!

so for me probably smaller things that normally I wouldn’t justify with the weekly budget.
