Where to stay in London

Dh and I are going to see Peter Kay in Nov at the o2. We are going to stay for two nights so we can see some other sights.

Can anyone recommend a hotel that's easy for the o2 and seeing sights.

With that budget I'd stay somewhere lovely like the savoy. Don't stay near the O2. Get the tube there and back.

I did have a look at the Ritz. Will look at Claridges and the Shard. These comments have me in two minds now about hotels. My thinking about the hotel budget is that its me and dhs 25 year anniversary this year. But now I am thinking how much would we be in/use the hotel.

Will take a few days to mull over and look at places. Thanks everyone for the great tips and advice.

This is such a reasonable point. All that money to spend time in London and then are you actually spending time in London or are you going to spend time in a fancy room.

If you happen to find a middle ground, do share!

My rule of thumb for city breaks is get a hotel or apartment that is central but basic - I don't mind a bit old fashioned or spartan but I do expect a clean room and en suite facilities (eg at least an en suite shower and toilet). In a city you don't need breakfast - there are usually loads of better value and more interesting cafes nearby.

You don't want to spend loads on a room you only really see to sleep at night but also you don't want to spend loads of time and money on public transport.

With this in mind are you thinking premier inn / travelodge located centrally??

Ginmonkeyagain · 10/01/2024 08:13

There are a fair amount of Travel Lodges and Premier Inns in central London - Waterloo, London Bridge, Covent Garden etc..

Sleep somewhere cheaper then Breakfast at Claridges for £45 each!

Lovely hotels to stay in if you have a good budget and want to have a gorgeous time:
Claridges - to be treated like vips and generally feel wonderful
Landmark - great for Hyde park and Knightsbridge if you fancy posh shopping. V near buck palace
The Standard - cool and modern, by St Pancras
Raffles - brand new, on Whitehall so good for parliament etc, but reviews of the restaurants are mixed
Nomad - great area in Covent Garden, loads to see in a 5 min walk from the door
Dean St Townhouse - if you like the soho house vibe
Shangri la - for views and borough market

Once you have your hotel booked, take advantage of it and speak to the concierge about restaurant bookings, advice re what to see etc.

Don't worry about being near the o2, that sounds really depressing. We live in north west London and it's an easy commute even from there, such an easy city to get around. Please don't stay in a travelodge, if you have the money to treat yourself, do it properly! And happy anniversary!!

Luxury hotels thread. Excellent. I love Sea Containers, right on the river on the South Bank. Close to Southwark tube for the 02 but easy journey to everything central. But it’s less central than some of the other options already mentioned.

I would say anywhere on the Jubillee line. What about the County Hall Marriott if you want to upgrade from Premier Inn?

Avoid anything that would rely on boat or cable cars for after the concert when thousands are wanting to leave and there might be high winds or bad weather.
