What do you all think of soup makers? I make a lot of soup out of left overs and used to use one but I have gone back to a hand blender and just making it on the hob, I can never seem to get the consistency right in the soup maker.

Big pan and a blender is all you need. Soup makers are a gadget for people who like gadgets.

I got a soupmaker recently after having looked at them for a while.

initially I really liked it. I do like it still but I find it a bit restricting with regard to the size

I love that you can set it up and then leave it and
not worry about it boiling over. That’s the main advantage I think

I've never understood them. Pan and hand blender. Or slow cooker then hand blender if you want to ensure nothing boils over.

I love my soup maker, can’t be arsed with cooking and hand blending and then having to mop up all the bits it spits everywhere.

I’ve got a Morphy Richards soup maker, it cooks onions too. Can blend or leave soup chunky, but you chuck everything in and 20 minutes later it’s all done. It’s so easy.

I got given a ninja hot cold blender and thought initially a bit pointless but now love it. In 35 mins can have lovely hot smooth soup ready to eat and very little mess

I love mine, perfect hot lunch in 21 minutes. Especially when I'm wfh & having a very busy day, just turn it on & then I can get a bit more work done whilst it's making the soup.

I agree with PP's that the big advantage of them is that you can just leave them like a slow cooker but I seem to be getting results with a pan.

Ninja is the best, hands down. Had it 5 years and use it at least once a week. Game changer because it effectively sautéed, makes sauce, smoothies and cocktails but I use the soup function. More expensive but my previous jug type Morphy Richards had the blade shear off during the blending. I only found it when I poured into bowl. I'm a convert!

If they fry the stuff for you first I'd be interested. Easier than having to tend the veg while frying. Onion takes about 15 mins for me and it wouldn't be as nice if it wasn't fried

Depends on what kind of soups you like I guess. If bog standard smooth veg soups are your bag I can see them being useful.

I prefer soups that need ingredients adding at different stages so would be pointless counter space waste as far easier to do on the hob.

I make a lot of soup in the instant Pot, sautéed first then pressure cook for 15 mins. Blend in the pot if required!

Exactly this. Great for WFH I can pop down, throw some veg in it and then I have hot soup ready for lunch in 30mins. Good for using up random veg from the fridge.

Yes, I could do it in a pan with a blender but this saves time during the week.

I just put a stick blender in a pan and it doesn't spit at all. Can't be bothered with washing up a soup blender.

I love the simplicity of them. In my ‘make do, and mend ‘ mode, I’ve been saving left over veg, and making soup from them.

Yesterday’s creation was potato and leek soup. The potato was some wedges which I didn’t cook as ds went out, some cooked leek and peas from our meal and some extra (uncooked) leeks, plus seasoning, etc. That’s my lunch sorted at work for the next couple of days.

Use to use a pan and blender, but this is so much easier to prepare, cook and wash up.

I use my soup maker quite a lot in the colder months, it was just a cheap one from Aldi. I also have a hand blender but Little Miss Fussy DD won't eat soup if it has the slightest lump in it and it took ages to do it with the hand blender, it comes out perfectly smooth every time with the soup maker.

The soup maker is so easy as there's no need to stay with it as I would with a pan on the hob and a blender. Just put ingredients in, turn on, come back 20-30 mins later.

I borrowed a Murphy Richard’s (not the sauté) one yesterday and made mushroom soup. Followed the book it came with and it bubbled up a lot, lots of steam, didn’t leave it as was worried what it might do, it didn’t really blend it smooth as I’d though it would.

bit meh really because I thought it was going to be fabulous. Tasted good but not sure the faff of cleaning all the bits of mushroom round the lid and in the pan was worth the effort.

am going to try a simple veg soup and see if it’s the same tomorrow.
