Please wise mumsnetters can you help me. I need to find something amazing to do with my 7 year old nephew in August in London. He's Pokemon mad if that helps! I need to be able to give him the details of it for his birthday this month!

The new Young V&A museum (formerly Museum of Childhood) is fab. They have a Japanese Myths and Manga exhibition on until September 2024.

There is a performance of Spirited Away (Studio Ghible) at London Coliseum - in Japanese but with puppets and recommends from 7+.

My boys also liked Greenwich Maritime museum and observatory at that age

Any particular area of London?

My 8 year old likes the Transport Museum, Natural History Museum, Science Musem. Loved the London Eye.

For August maybe a boat trip to Greenwich and a trip to the Observatory and Maritime museum? or the zoo?

Starlight express (musical on roller blades and perfect for age 7 imo) opens next year

@CuttingAllTheFlowersStill

Thanks for that
Have you been to the Japan Myths and Manga exhibition? I think my godchild would love it but neither of us are in London anymore so bit of a hassle, but parents are grateful when I take them places they might not like themselves. 😂

The highlights section doesn't look great, maybe it's just not well presented though.

A show. An escape room. An open top bus tour. Something like Dopamine land or Balloon Musuem. London Dungeons (it is quite scary though!). Kidzania.

I saw a FB ad for this - looks fun:

I'm planning to spend some time in London with DS this summer, he will be 7. He wants to see the famous sights (Big Ben etc) and I think we'll take an Uber boat along the river and hop off at various points. Might go to the Tower of London?

Young V&A is also on my list. And the London Postal Museum, sounds a bit random but was recommended. Has underground postal train apparently.

Actually Dopamine Land looks better than the Bubble place... looks really fun!

@EmmaEmerald
Yes I have been. I thought it was a bit dry but interesting - my child is a teen and obsessed with all things Japanese so was interested in the exhibits/subject already. I don't think it was hugely interactive although I think there were Japanese drums and some origami making stations etc so smaller children seemed happy. It wasn't a huge exhibition. It was the refit of the museum that I really liked - a gorgeous building and a lovely mix of exhibits and activities designed for different ages.

my godchild is big on manga and it sounds interesting for me as well, that'll get me brownie points all round at half term 😂

I took my Pokemon obsesses 8-year old nephew to the Van Gogh Museum's Pokemon themed exhibition in November but he also enjoyed the science and natural history museums in London and clamoured to return to them. Check eventbrite/Meet up for Pokemon themed events,competitions and comic cons.

TrentCrimmOfTheIndependent · 07/01/2024 06:17

Twist? It’s a museum of illusions in Oxford St.

giantinflatabledinosaur · 07/01/2024 06:21

For a 7 year old into dinosaurs and similar?London zoo!
Tips: bring swim shorts as there's a little splash bit and bring a packed lunch because the food is overpriced and a bit crap

PurpleQualityStreetDress · 07/01/2024 06:31

Does he care for Harry Potter? The universal studios are easily accessible from central London

Must go on London Eye

Knickersinatwistagain · 07/01/2024 06:38

What @maltravers said. The Diana playground is epic. If he’s into video games Power Up at the Science Museum is also really fun.

Usernamechange1234 · 07/01/2024 06:52

Horrible histories river tour is fab, then museum!

giantinflatabledinosaur · 07/01/2024 07:10
