Packed lunches when travelling? What to prepare?

I will be travelling overnight in a few more weeks. I would like to pack some lunches with me to bring to the airport instead of eating airport food that is often over priced and usually small and limited.

I am thinking about making some sandwiches. Maybe chicken or turkey sandwiches.

What other food can I prepare for my big packed lunch that will likely see me through two different airports?

Usually for my day to day lunch I like, soup, yogurt and vegetable salad but there's some of that, that will not be suitable for travelling like a soup because I don't want to be carrying flasks with me. I can use a disposable box for a salad maybe.

I have no idea what to prepare for lunches for the airport. I don't want to be eating convenience foods from the airport either like chocolate and chrisps.

Salad , with a plastic fork, in a zip lock bag that can be let go of
Crackers and cheese
Granola bars
Juice boxes
Fruit chews
Sliced apples tossed in cinnamon
Mixed nuts and dried fruits
Pretzels and a mustard dip (I hang into mine from McDonald's)

I love home made cheese straws. They would travel well in the right container.
I like wraps cos you can have a few fillings without getting as full with bulky bread.
Samosas.

We just do sandwiches & fruit, maybe some bags of crisps.

  • Something like tabbouleh or pasta salad in a plastic takeaway box or metal bento box
  • Babybels
  • Cheese and crackers
  • Frittata

Really anything you'd take for a normal packed lunch! Will it be particularly hot where you're going?

A tub with carrot/cucumber sticks, a few olives and cherry tomatoes, a little tub of hummous. Bit of flat bread.
Wraps or pitta bread for sandwiches, hard boiled egg, couple of bits of flapjack.

Be careful with your liquids, you won't be able to take through yoghurt etc to the second airport and you'd need to eat it before security in the first airport unless you plan on putting it in a liquids bag through security.
If it was me I'd focus on a salad or sandwich with non liquid snacks.

Sandwich or salad is fine - but avoid anything liquid or semi liquid as you can't take it through security. I just make up a baguette and cut into sections

I've taken breakfast through many times. Either pastries like crossiant or those individual cereal pots/boxes and just buy some milk airside.

I've taken all sorts of packed lunch, sandwiches, pasta, sausage rolls, pasties, fruit crisps cake biscuits etc. Anything you'd pack for work/school but yeah mind your liquids!
