Outfits for daughters sports.

I've had a bit of a spending problem the last few months and really trying to cut back on buying my children clothes (unless needed). They have lots and I really need to cut back. My issue is they I always think they need more than they have. I've had a good sort out of their wardrobe these last few days and their ok for everyday/smartish occasions. My daughter attends netball training once a week as of the new term though. How many pairs of leggings/sports style tshirts would you recommend for this? I know it's stupid but I'm really trying to become more minimalistic. Thank you

One.

My dd does her sport three times a week. She has two pairs of sports leggings, one pair of shorts and she wears any t shirt.

Once a week? Then she only needs one set surely? It can be washed in the 7 days in between.
My DD does football twice a week - one kit.
Hockey twice a week- one kit.
The fabric this stuff is made from dries almost instantly!

1 or 2 sets is fine! My daughter does gymnastics and wears the same leotard each week. Weekly means plenty of time to wash. A second set gives a backup if needed e.g. something gets lost or ripped.

Yes it does. My dd washes her PE kit when she gets home on a Tuesday and it's taken back to school on Wednesday morning without issue.

Doesn't she have ordinary non-sports leggings already she could wear?

Rudolphtherednoseddog · 06/01/2024 20:15

One set. Why would you think she’d need more?

(And if we’re talking about a 5/6/7/8 year old doing a “for fun” club I’d just get them to wear whatever leggings and t-shirt was in their everyday clothing drawer, I wouldn’t buy specific sportswear.)

InTheRainOnATrain · 06/01/2024 20:16

Nothing specific as my DD would already have leggings and t shirts so doesn’t need anything specific for that activity. If yours literally doesn’t own a pair of leggings because it’s not her style then get 1, but that’s all she needs as you surely do laundry at least once a week.

This is where I struggle. I always assume that she needs 3/4 and this is why I need to stop spending and be more organised.

I agree that she doesn't need anything special for a once a week netball session.

But why would she need 3 or 4? Because you don’t think you can’t get them washed by the next session? You don’t want her to be seen in the same outfit too often? You like her to have choices?

(My children, school uniform aside, probably only have about 6-8 outfits in total in any one season. I can’t fathom needing 4 for a weekly hour long activity.)

Esgaroth · 06/01/2024 20:32

My kids only have 2 sets of kit for a sport they do 3 times a week. Granted they're prepubescent so not sweaty and smelly yet, but they'd only need one set if they weren't constantly losing and forgetting bits here and there.

kitsuneghost · 06/01/2024 20:33
  1. Only so she has an option and not turning up in the same thing every week. Maybe a black and a colourful
IncognitoUsername · 06/01/2024 20:35

Familiaritybreedscontemptso · 06/01/2024 20:38

Maximum of 2. Only 1 really thought as you can easily wash each week.

My dd only has 1 PE kit for school & does PE 3 times a week. But it all dries so quickly it’s no bother to chuck in the machine and wash one day before she uses it again the next. And I work in a very busy job.

4 outfits for a once a week activity is way ott.

I think it's because we didn't have a lot of money growing up and I got teased for not being able to wear the latest fashion. That's why I think I buy them so much clothes. I am working on it though as irs my new years resolution to put more money into experiences rather than things. Just a difficult mindset to get out or. Thanks everyone for the replies.

The maximum number of activity specific outfits required for a growing child is one set for every day they do it.
So maximum school uniforms- 5 for 5 days at school.
1 dance lesson - 1 dance kit
etc etc
They end up needing replacing every year anyway due to growth.
