Dehumidifier in bedroom

My little (2yo) independently decided to sleep in her own room and bed after a trip away. Spent about 3 weeks in there.

Being a breastfed cosleeping baby I was very surprised at how well it went and naturally it happened.

However suddenly, what was a tiny damp corner in the ceiling has turned into all out black mould appearing on walls and ceiling.

We have obviously moved her out and back into my bed but unfortunately cannot get anyone to fix the damp issue for a month at the earliest.

We have got a pretty decent dehumidifier in there now and it seems to be removing a lot of water. We plan to remove and clean the mould tomorrow and give a good spray with mould killer. We will make sure there is no mould growing before moving her back in.

If the dehumidifier keeps the mould at bay, is she ok to go back in there & sleep with it running? It's not too noisy but I'm wondering if it will have health effects if it becomes too dry? Is that a thing?

She's made strides towards her independence and I don't want to have that ruined. Obviously though, her health and safety comes first.

Anyone been in a similar situation?

Does your dehumidifier not stop at 50%?

Sorry, what do you mean?

We had a flat with a bad condensation problem.

A dehumidifier solved the problem within a couple of days but we couldn't run it at night because we would wake up dehydrated and gasping for a drink of water.

It's very bad to sleep in a room with a dehumidifier running. Likely to cause a sore throat.

I would run the dehumidifier every day and switch jt off at night. Also open the window every day. I find the best thing to keep mould at bay is dabbing bleach on the paintwork with a cloth (wear goggles in case of splashes) - prevents it coming back, but do ventilate the room well afterwards for several hours.

My dehumidifier allows me to set the humidity level. It has a default setting of around 55 iirc. At this level (not too dry) it turns itself off and then rechecks every 2 hours and goes on and off as necessary.
Personally I'd leave it to run in there, but I think it would also be okay if you used it during the day and turned it off at night (and maybe had the windows open a crack to let fresh air circulate.

Is the room heated op: do you know what’s causing the damp and mould?

I have a dehumidifier in our bedroom. I set it in continuous setting and it just runs all night. I partly have it because I need background noise but since the room is damp is makes sense to have it on during the night. It is set to 50 and I have no problems with it at all

Thank you all for your comments.

We went out for about 4 hours today and turned it off. Came back to a reading of 90 humidity.
When it's running it brings it down to 50-55.
