Giving wine for a birthday

So I'm going to a party and want to give the birthday person a nice bottle of wine. Should I just wrap it up? And label it? My point being to distinguish it from a general bottle you bring to a party for everyone. I'm probably over thinking this. I know they like whiskey but don't want to get a crap one. And they like wine. They are spouse of my friend so don't know them so well.

Use a bottle bag maybe

Thank you! Maybe I should go for champagne instead! So annoying that I'm finding this tricky 😫😁

Ask your friend what specific type (single malt? Islay? Japanese?) of whisky their partner likes, then get an affordable bottle of that?

But whisky is expensive, I know.

What’s your budget?

You're over thinking it. Put it in a nice gift bag, hand it to them when you arrive and say "happy birthday!" like you would with any other gift, and then if you've also brought wine to the party, say "I've I've also got some wine here for the party where shall I put it?"

Thanks for the replies! Smile

I was going to go for the whiskey but I felt too late to ask his wife; as would be relying on WhatsApp and she can be slow to respond/busy getting ready!

Usually we would all chip in (a group of friends) but various people are not coming/uncontactable. Usually my dh comes up with ideas but he's gone off to work on a new project and I thought I should be big girls pants on and sort it myself!

So I got a nice bottle of red wine from M&S and I nice bottle bag! Over thinking it because all present idea out after Christmas!

I like whiskey but I remember he offered me a glass after a dinner party once and I thought it was a bit crappy ShockBlushGrin

Also I haven't been to a party in ages because of Covid and whatnot; it's usually been a few drinks or out to the pub.
