Constant lethargy: what basic things might I be doing wrong?

No matter what, I feel lethargic and often like I have pressure in my head/want to close my eyes. Can't be arsed. Would love to just lie down all the time if I could. It must be something in my lifestyle, what should I change? I'm thinking:

  1. Not be on my phone so much (irony!) - maybe it's effecting my head
  1. Drink more water (but I do at least 2 litres a day)

Is it just life?! Had bloods checked at GP and all fine

Fresh air, diet and exercise.

We are what we eat.

Asifiwouldnt · 06/01/2024 11:43

How old are you? Perimenopausal lethargy is very real

whats your diet like? Energy slumps after an insulin spike causing a reactive hypoglycaemia can cause massive dips in energy. Read the glucose goddess instagram page for more on this

take iron. Most women are low in iron even with a normal full blood count

Do you exercise? It’s great for getting everything invigorated and making you feel energised.

mindutopia · 06/01/2024 11:47

What was your vitamin D? It can be ‘fine’ but still low and doctors won’t advise you to do anything even though supplements would make a real difference. 100 or more is the ideal but very few people will maintain that without supplementation in the UK. Mine was 50, which is borderline deficient and I could barely walk up the stairs without getting exhausted and needing to lie down.

Cutting out alcohol, if you drink, and regular exercise outdoors will also make a big difference.

And honestly, resting! Sometimes you need to rest.

When you say your bloods got tested- what did they test for?
iron
thyroid
vitamin b12
diabetes

It maybe worth checking to see whether everything was tested.

I'm 43. Try to do 10k steps a day and rarely less than 5-7. I think my diet is good: I follow the glucose goddess stuff and aim generally for lower carb where I can. I do drink but when I give up I notice no difference so that makes me go back to it 😂

He didn't mention my vitamin d, just said all is well. I do take the better you vitamin d spray and multivitamins and fish oils. That's why I'm racking my brains: I feel like I'm doing all the things I should. But something is making me feel shit.

He said a general blood test. Not sure exactly what. He didn't go through it with me really, just said all fine. Including hormones. But I know blood tests can't tell you if you're in peri menopause. Don't think he knows that.

It could be to do with your mental health? Tiredness and losing motivation to do things you previously enjoyed are symptoms of depression. Obviously I'm saying that without knowing you at all though, just thought it was worth pointing out.

Hope you feel better soon and figure out the cause.
