Did anyone here ever walk out from their job?

Did anyone here ever walk out from their job?.

I am thinking about doing just that. I am thinking about talking a sick week from work for a break and working on my CV and then not going back to work.

I work in the care industry and it's so exetremely vile. I went into work on Tuesday morning at 9 am and it was 11.30 at night by the time I finished. I never signed up for that.

It was the same thing all week long. It's approaching 8 in work and the worst thing is that they will be pscyohpaths and refuse me overtime pay and only pay me minimum wage and twist things on me being incompent with my work when on Tuesday I had to rely on my supervisor to come into work to relieve me of my day and she came in reading of booze.

I am so tired. I never signed up to work 50+ hours a week and go into a work day by being told I will finish at 6 but in reality it will be hours and hours later.

I'm sitting on the toilet in work still not finished and nearly in tears and it's only now I am getting a chance to change the sanitary pad that I put on this morning before work.

I am having dark thoughts in that I would be treated better in prison. I would be allowed sleep, showers and meals in prison.

I packed a soup in my lunch on Wednesday and I am still carrying it around with me uneaten because I was hardly allowed a sit down break. I had to eat on the go a few times. It's a nightmare.

Blimey, I'd be out of there like a shot.

FETFirstTimer · 05/01/2024 19:57

Yes and I didn’t regret it but how are they forcing you to not eat/have breaks? It sounds horrific

the80sweregreat · 05/01/2024 19:59

I'd leave , sounds more like slave labour than a job and not having breaks is just wrong
I'd also consider whistle blowing too
Sounds horrendous

Tara336 · 05/01/2024 19:59

Yes I did it once and it was the best decision I ever made. I hated the place and I went to lunch one day and never went back. I got temping work that started the next week and I kept getting asked to stay another week, then was offered a permanent job there and stayed 18 years.

I had people tell me I was mad walking out but sometimes you know what's best for you.

Sunflower8848 · 05/01/2024 20:00

Yes walk out! I walked out of a job when I was in my early 20’s. My sister had died and they expected me to work the next day (waitressing). I went in anyway. About a week later they were so demanding of me, expecting me to complete workbooks training etc, I didn’t have the headspace for it and I just quit there and then.

vorhees · 05/01/2024 20:00

This isn't healthy for you. Self-cert for a week then go to the doctors for a 2 week sick line. Once that ends, go get another 2 weeks. Use the time for some time for yourself and to job hunt for something less stressful for sure. Once secured, quit! Hope you're okay, I don't blame you!

capabilityfrowns · 05/01/2024 20:01

Are you in a union op?

rainpleasestop · 05/01/2024 20:01

Yes, please leave. You can't go on like that.

Jellykat · 05/01/2024 20:02

Life is too short!!
Yep, ive walked out of 2 jobs in my life, and both times there were many small things that escalated, then a final something that tipped me over the edge.
Felt so so liberating to just go!

However i didnt have a contract either time, re notice, and stupidly no savings to tide me over.
I learnt the hard way re. money, so yes, take next week off sounds like you really really need to, and apply for other jobs (unless you have money stashed to fall back on) then stick 2 fingers up OP!!

Sounds like you need to do it, before you start getting ill.. Good luck x

BethDuttonsTwin · 05/01/2024 20:02

Yes, my boss shouted at me so I walked to my desk, packed my things and left there and then. They begged me to go back so I did a week later on the proviso that person never spoke to me again, which they did not.

In your position I would be out of there like a shot. You’ll easily find more care work, if that’s what you want to do again, they’re desperate for them where I am and hopefully next time they’ll be better employers.

blackpanth · 05/01/2024 20:02

Definitely leave

AuntMarch · 05/01/2024 20:03

Yes, few months ago. Finally hit my limit of how much bigoted bullshit I could listen to while manager did nothing about it.

Arabaloosa · 05/01/2024 20:06

I did. I was a couple of hours into a shift and just thought I can't do this anymore. So I just left. I'd been in that job ten years. Boss called me after to give me a dressing down for leaving and I basically told her to shove it. Over worked, things put upon me that were above my remit, blame game when things didn't go right, the cliques and the bitchiness... Not to mention the way clients spoke to you. No regrets. I did have a little what the heck have I done moment as I had no job lined up, but by the end of the week I had another in a totally different sphere. More money, less stress and hassle

TwittersXgf · 05/01/2024 20:07

Leave, sign on if you need to until you get yourself sorted. I've done care work before and it's brutal it's why I'm no longer doing it or anything in that area. Look after yourself, you deserve better.

carbon60 · 05/01/2024 20:12

Yes I did ,I'd already handed in my notice. On the Monday I 'd just had enough of the wankers ,more problems with pay etc, supervisor started having a go at me ,so I walked out told manager in leaving ( oh no,you can't.... Oh yes I can!)
I went to the pub while I waited for the bus, over an hour, and never looked back.Found another job and carried on.

SteadyFreddi · 05/01/2024 20:19

I used to work in the care industry. Take a week sick and apply for agency care work so you can try out different settings at reasonable pay. Also look at other better paid care jobs. Every hour should be paid fully above the minimum wage. Please consider TA work in schools and colleges. Be honest at interview, explain you never get to finish on time, only going home between 8pm and 11pm with overtime being unpaid.

SteadyFreddi · 05/01/2024 20:24

After you’ve left whistle blow to cqc, tell them about the manager being on duty having consumed alcohol. Mention the unpaid hours and chaotic rotas.

Join a union - unison?

Littletinytarzanswingingfromanosehair · 05/01/2024 20:30

Yes. Leave, don't go back and contact and report this all to CQC.

CaramelMac · 05/01/2024 20:32

Yes, I’d only been there a day though. In your situation I’d go off sick with stress while you look for something else.

AmandaHoldensLips · 05/01/2024 20:33

Yes I have.
And so should you.
Definitely report to CQC and make sure you have a record of the hours you are owed for.

DipsAndSplits · 05/01/2024 20:59

Yes, when i was nineteen and my male boss trapped me against a wall by placing his hands on the wall at either side of me and offering me ' cash in hand ' work. ( If you get my meaning )
I kneed him hard in the bollocks, as taught to do by my mum and walked out, never to return.
