Bear with me and trust the process :

  1. Dollop of hummus.
  2. About half a teaspoon of miso paste.
  3. A glug of olive oil.
  4. Mix all these together and then stir through pasta (hot or cold).

I promise you - a revelation! You should all.try it forthwith and thank me later...

I had a lot of left over hummus that I stirred through pasta recently and was surprised how well it worked (more like creamy sauce than claggy). So I’m confident your suggestion is sound OP

Arabaloosa · 05/01/2024 19:21

I tried miso soup once. Found it quite... Yeasty tasting. It's what I imagine a cup of thrush would taste like. Promptly tipped it away and have never ventured down that path again

Is it not beige on beige OP?

But naturally beige. Not artificially sludgy coloured.

BarbaraVineFan · 05/01/2024 19:23

KingsleyBorder · 05/01/2024 19:12

Yup, clag tastic surely?

What shape of pasta OP?

I also had this issue. Hence the olive oil. It eliminates the clag.

I used fusilli, but only because that's all I had in.

A cup of thrush 😂😂😂😂😂😂

I think it sounds nice @BarbaraVineFan. I reckon the heat of the pasta will loosen the hummous enough not to be claggy.

Hummus is surprisingly good in jacket spuds too.

BetterWithPockets · 05/01/2024 19:29

While I am not a fan of miso, I am loving this thread, OP!

ErrolTheDragon · 05/01/2024 19:41

I must try that next time I make hummus. We don't like raw garlic in it but it could do with a bit of something extra.

I agree miso can be 'yeasty' but that's good (ive never had thrush, maybe that colours the PPs view). I ran out of marmite during lockdown and found that a bit of miso was a decent alternative if I wanted something tasty on a ryvita.

YES! Miso IS indeed very similar to marmite.. I wonder if Nigella's Marmite pasta could be improved with a dollop of hummus?

I've never had thrush personally, but dealt with several cases from a veterinary point of view in a past life... Maybe that has forever tainted my palate and I am doomed to be a culinary philistine

TomatoSandwiches · 05/01/2024 19:48

White miso? <checks cupboard> I have that and Tahini...

Whiteclaw · 05/01/2024 19:50

Was this a smooth hummus like the fancy branded ones or a gritty hummus like Tesco or Sainsbury’s own brand?

tempnameforadvice · 05/01/2024 19:51

Miso is so, so rank. Hummus is nice though!!!!

PincNeon · 05/01/2024 18:49

Pasta and chickpeas is a classic combo, and I’m sure I’ve seen a recipe for a smooth chickpea sauce for pasta before, so this isn’t as out there as it sounds.

Yes. Pasta e ceci. You have to liquidise half the chick peas with the stock so it's really smooth and non claggy. You could use miso broth??

I used my Sainsburys one, but I bet you could use the smooth one just as well. Better in fact adds smooth hummus to shopping list

That sounds interesting, I will give it a go.

Dh was out with friends today and from a local café he had a bacon, banana and mango chutney toastie which he says was amazing.

Falkenburg · 05/01/2024 20:50

Get a boring margerita pizza and give it life by drizzling squeezy marmite on it and top with some smashed salted and roasted cashew nuts when cooked.

Optional extra after cooking, top with some more grated cheese and some splashes of milk and place under a grill until cheese is bubbling.

Mushroomwithaview · 05/01/2024 20:56

I would like to add to the peanut butter and something weird canon:
Peanut butter and sliced burger pickles.

Gymnopedie · 05/01/2024 21:45

@MonsteraMama

Since discovering that vegetarian sausages dipped in raspberry jam is one of my favourite snacks

How on earth did you....no, never mind. I may not want to hear it 🤔

mommatoone · 05/01/2024 22:14

Sausage / veggie ones. Cooked in oven with a coating of mango chutney until sticky. I mean, its mot the most 'out there' things , but its bloody lovely!

Peanut butter (crunchy) and sliced apple is currently the breakfast of choice in this house

OutYerEd · 05/01/2024 22:29

I am 50/50 on trying this.

I love miso, houmous and pasta, so that’s making me feel hopeful.

But the constant use of the word ‘claggy’ on this thread alone makes me feel nauseous <bleurghhhh>.

And although I love pasta and marmite, I found that marmite pasta revolting.

Plus ‘cup of thrush’ nearly finished me off.

So…I’m conflicted.

Peanut butter and apple is pretty basic, the opposite of a weird combo!

Isometimeswonder · 05/01/2024 22:31

I don't know what miso is.
Several PPs have made me unsure if I want to...... 🫢

ThreeRingCircus · 06/01/2024 11:17

Ok, I'm going to try it. I have some miso paste that needs using up and also love hummus and pasta so I'll live on the wild side and give it a go. Will report back.

For those that don't like miso. It makes an excellent marinade for chicken, salmon or tofu. Just mix miso, soy sauce, chilli paste, garlic, honey and rice vinegar and marinate your chicken etc in the sauce then cook. Keep basting with the extra marinade throughout the cooking time. It's delicious.
