If you own your own business

What do you do? Do you enjoy it? Was your initial investment high?

It's always been my goal to be self employed, but from several things I've heard recently I have been somewhat put off.

Do you have an idea for a business?

GreySantaRabbit · 06/01/2024 12:49

First thing is to identify what you want to do. Look at your skills, interests and abilities.
I have my own business, I enjoy it, I've done it for over 10 years now and my initial investment was £50. It's now part time because that suits me but I could upscale again to full time if I wanted (do so approaching Xmas anyway)

@GreySantaRabbit what is your business?

SnowBotherer · 08/01/2024 20:39

I used to, well, with my (now ex) partner. He had the technical knowledge & ability & I ran it. I also ran other small businesses for people with similar skills who had no book keeping or business skills.

this was overseas.

im now back in the UK, facing redundancy & I'd love to start up something else. But I don't know what. Been thinking about it for a long time, but still no idea. I couldn't really do what I did there as there's so many differences in the law & taxes etc and I'm struggling with the menopause, so find it all too much to get my head around.

Freelance accounting. Cost me pennies to set up.

If you have a skill, capitalise on that. Oh, and becoming a 'consultant' and investing in a 'starter pack' of branded products to sell on - well that won't mean you are running your own business, it makes you a customer of theirs.
