London during tube strike

I have to travel into London on Monday - not a trip I can postpone. I'll need to get from St Pancras to Earls Court.

I think my only option is an uber isn't it? I'm assuming I'll be able to get one without much difficulty? Do Ubers tend to be cheaper than black cabs?

Uber, Bolt and Free Now are your options for a cab. It’ll be cheaper than a black cab but if you’re using their services on tube strike days then they do increase the prices

What time? I'd allow extra time for sure, both because there'll be more traffic on the roads and because all the taxi services will be busier than normal. If it's rush hour things could be very slow. If it's the middle of the day you could also try a bus, it might be busier than usual but probably do-able - it will be 2 or 3 buses and take over an hour I think but with the hopper fare will be much cheaper than Uber...

45 mins or so by bike according to City Mapper if that's an option? Though the bikes will be busy too so definitely leave extra time. I'll be on mine 🚲

I assume lots of other people will also be using Ubers so make sure you leave plenty of time.

Thames Link, the DLR and the Overground are running (possibly with some delays/station closures) so there may well be another way round. If you walk to Euston from St Pancras you can get the overground to Willesden Junction and change to go to West Brompton, which is walking distance to Earls Court

Ooh this may be a good option if I'm struggling with taxis, thank you.

Unfortunately not as I'll have luggage, thanks though!

@KenAdams with the tubes out there will be a much higher than usual demand for taxes and Ubers, and I’d expect more traffic than usual too

dempsey73 · 05/01/2024 20:19

Bus? It's three buses and it'll take just over an hour according to TfL.

KenAdams · 05/01/2024 21:08

I was worried the buses would be packed and I'd struggle to get on, but if its Uber that's busy that might be my only option.

When the tubes AND trains were out, you couldn't book a private car! Shouldn't be so bad on Monday (and most office workers work from home on Monday) but I'd book early if I were you

HappyHamsters · 05/01/2024 21:19

You could walk or cross the road and get a bus up to Warren Street, then get 27 bus to Earls Court. Whereabouts in Earls Court do you need to get to.

EmmaEmerald · 05/01/2024 21:21

Book a minicab in advance, much easier.

LlynTegid · 05/01/2024 21:23

Thameslink to Blackfriars and then the river bus to Imperial Wharf perhaps?

TheOGCCL · 05/01/2024 21:28

I agree with PP about going via Euston and Willesden Junction. It's only a short walk between St P and Euston, leave St P by the exit onto Midland Road and there are signs to follow.

HundredMilesAnHour · 05/01/2024 21:29

Other option is Thamelink to Farringdon and change on to the Elizabeth line to Paddington. You can walk to Earls Court from there but it'll take approx 40 mins. The bus you need is the 27 (takes approx 25 mins) or get a cab/Uber from Paddington.

It'd be fine if you could walk but the luggage is a problem unfortunately.
