Redundancy worries

There’s probably 70 jobs at risk and about seven or eight that need to go, we believe.

We probably won’t know for another few months what the outcome is, as it depends on how many opt for voluntary redundancy. Within the 70ish posts there is a large proportion of over 55s so I think early retirement might be appealing for a few, but it’s hard to say at this stage.

Has anyone been in this situation before and what was the outcome? Thanks.

The situation is similar to my current organisation. We don't know which roles are at risk yet. It is not fair to anyone but I really like this job - probably because I've been staying here too long and the thought of leaving makes me feel very insecure/anxious/stressful.

I have also considered the benefit of early retirement - spending more time with my children and honestly right now having to work full-time and doing housework and childcare are very draining to me. But I'm not in my 40s yet and I'm not quite ready to give up my current career, which has become an important part of my identity.

In the previous round of 'restructuring' a few years ago whithin the same org, a few colleagues who had spent quite a long time opted for voluntary redundancy, partly because the comp package was good, also they felt they could have better chances to fulfill their career passion outside the org. But for me, I can't see I can do the same - perhaps I should start looking too.
