I need a hobby - any ideas?

I've got to a point in my life where my kids are a bit older and I have a bit of free time, but have no hobbies.

DH has a hobby he does regularly (not one that I would want to join him in!), but he doesn't take the piss with it and will generally check with me before agreeing to extra sessions etc. So it's not that I'm annoyed that he has a hobby and I don't, it's more I feel a bit bored.

I'm in my 40s and am quite overweight at the mo (working on it, but not there yet) so I don't want anything "active" for now. I work from home so don't really interact with many people on a daily basis, so would like something I can do alongside other people as well as perhaps at home.

Any ideas?!

I'm a certified Genealogist. I help
People find their family histories and help them with their Ancestry DNA results. Hobby turned professional.
It's addictive. Does it appeal to you?

A musical instrument is a great one to meet people as often when you get better you could go to pub sessions etc. Joining a choir can also be fun depending on how serious it is!

Something like a local sewing/crochet/dressmaking course and/or social group?
A Book club

I'd say an active hobby would be a great idea if you're trying to lose weight! You could do something fun like clubbercise (and it's in the dark)

But if not there are lots of options out there, do you want a hobby you do alone in the house or something that is part of a club?

What about an evening class - learn a new language for example?

Book club.

Golf - most clubs runs women group classes, and it’s doing sport, but not energetic.

WI, Knit and Knatter type club where little knitting is done but lots of knatter and they will teach you how to knit / crochet if interested, Bowls - age range is much broader now than simply 'retired' and a gentle sport and often very social (well our local club is!).

I joined a sewing class. I can sew pretty well so I can mostly bumble along without instruction but I do it for the interaction and so I can sew without getting interrupted constantly.

Doing it at home is so much hassle - I can't in all conscience sit in a mess and sew so the place has to be tidy first. And then if, after tidying, I've still some hours left in the day I can begin.
Then I clear off a table of everyones random crap, wipe it down ready for sewing and in the 10 seconds it takes to fetch the sewing machine some fucker has made a sandwich without a breadboard and dropped crumbs and coleslaw and a dirty knife. Or they come in a million times asking you where stuff is when it's right under their nose.

Whatever hobby you choose, make sure it's somewhere away from the house most of the time at least!
