Best food for old furry cat

Devastated999 · 04/01/2024 11:40

My old boy is 16 yrs old and become fussier and fussier with his food. I keep getting ads for Untamed and KatKin as if the internet is reading my mind, lol!

Does anyone have an opinion on either of these catfoods?

I alternate between Kat kin, untamed and blink.

My cat loves untamed but it does not fill him up. He is a greedy cat.

Zooplus is an amazing website.
I highly recommend Mac's, Wild Freedom and Feringa which are brands they carry.

An all wet diet that is grain and sugar free is the best for cats, especially males and as they get older as they are vulnerable to kidney disease and urinary issues.

These are all pate textures and adding a little splash of warm water increases hydration and palatability.

My vet is amazing because she is really up to date on all the current research and is thrilled with those three brands I mentioned above.

Sorry, to add... Untamed is meh and Katkin has had a lot of issues recently after a recipe change and many of their customers have found the data don't like the food.

I would encourage getting a consistent and established brand like one of the ones I mentioned above.
Cats tend to love routine and once you find a brand he will like you can rotate the flavours and proteins which is important for a well rounded diet.
These brands have several.

I would go for high meat content and grain free to start
But then it comes down to what they will eat at that age is better than not eating! You'll probably be told by said cat exactly what they want to eat Grin

Currently he is easting Lidl 60% meat grain free pouches. I guess that they are as good as the rest then as they have a high meat content? But his litter box is sooo 🤢. I wondered if there is any cat food that helps really, after all poo is smelly.

My old boy loved

Natures menu
Purrform raw

Katkin have finally sorted their recipes out. We were on the verge of quitting but we're back! It looks and smells good enough to eat now!

Our two love it, has sorted out our boy's IBD, both have glossy coats and their poop is firm and almost odourless! 50% off next box gets us both a discount!

We tweak his weight and activity details so as to get the largest pack size (400kcal) as it works out cheaper that way! It does take up quite a bit of freezer space though, especially as we do the 6 week subscription, again due to cost.

My cat with digestive issues has been a different boy since being on Katkin. No more smelly runny poo, he has put on weight (good as he was the runt) and his fur is so glossy.
