2 extra curricular activities per child. Is it enough?

I've got a 5 and 8 year old. Now that I'm single I have to take both of them if one of them has a class. Most classes I have to stay with them. So far they like different things. I wish I could drop them off to one thing but so far that hasn't happened. This means I can only bring myself to taking them to two classes each per week.

I know others that go to classes everyday after school I just couldn't do that.

Are they going to be well rounded children with two classes? I know I need to accept it either way.

It sounds sensible.
If their school runs clubs afterscholl, these can be a good solution to the problem

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 03/01/2024 21:03

Yes it's enough!

ALunchbox · 03/01/2024 21:27

My friends and I only did one growing up and I'd like to think we turned out well rounded!
I echo using your school's after school and lunch clubs.

I already use the after-school clubs for when I work.

Definitely. I always just opted for one or two anyway because my child was too tired. Keep it simple. Simple is good for both you and them.

My kids had 2 + swimming lessons till they were competent, then the swimming lessons were dropped-they didn’t feel hard done by!

Not a single parent but a shift worker so there was only ever 1 of us available

LilyLemonade · 03/01/2024 21:42

I think it's plenty irrespective of the logistics. Kids (not to mention adults too) need down time as well as enrichment.

WashableVelvet · 03/01/2024 21:44

There’s two of us and only one school age kid (other is a toddler) and the only regular activity we manage apart from after school clubs is swimming. And I’m confident our DC is well rounded!

PepsiMaxLime · 03/01/2024 21:45

More than enough. DS does 3 and that feels full on sometimes. He wants to start coding club so I think he’ll have to drop one of this others to accommodate this, he also does 1 day in after school club, purely because his friends go.

Don’t be hard on yourself, you’ve got a lot on your plate.

RuthW · 03/01/2024 21:49

If I had my time again I would only start an activity if they were desperate to do so. Keep your life as simple as possible if you are working.

coxesorangepippin · 03/01/2024 21:58

Similar aged kids here and I only do one activity, and that's Saturday mornings

Week nights are too much

Gardagarda · 03/01/2024 22:00

My kids did no activities at all. They are at uni with lots of friends and v happy!
