Is electrolysis still a thing?

I don't think I'm the right skin/hair colouring for laser light treatment, and I would so love to get shot of superfluous hair once and for all!

Has anyone had it? Does it work? It seemed to be a really popular treatment 30 odd years ago.

It's still available, not everywhere but I've had it done in the last couple of years, safer than laser if you have sensitive skin.

I still have a top up occasionally.

As you say, some people have the wrong skin tone/hair colour for laser. And sometimes with laser the hair just keeps growing.

Yes it is around and it does work.

Thank you for your replies.

How long does it take or does it differ from person to person?

IPL didn't work on my chin hairs so I have electrolysis, I've been going every 2 weeks for a year. They're a bit better, less thick and coarse, but I wouldn't be able to stop or go longer than 3 weeks max. I think you can eventually increase the time between treatments, but it certainly isn't a quick fix. However, it's a lot cheaper than ipl. Tweezing was giving me ingrowing hairs, pimples and they all come up at different times so never clear / smooth. Shaving gave spikey stubble and needed to do it every day. So electrolysis seemed the best thing to do.

I had electrolysis monthly for years, didn’t ever stop them growing.

Curlewwoohoo · 03/01/2024 21:56

What did you do instead @LuckyCharmz ?

Wendyer · 03/01/2024 22:22

I had some, quite a bit, when I was a teen as I was so terribly self conscious. It did the job in a couple of areas but not on my face. I was hoping technology might have improved since then and it was now a wonder-cure!

You probably will need a couple of sessions to begin with, depends on amount of hair. I had some done in 2022, really made a huge difference. Still get a random dark hair here and there but not daily like before! My skin is also smoother.
