We're wasting our time off lounging in the house so I've just booked 2 nights in London - very last minute and exciting!

We've been before and done the usual sights, where might I not have thought of?

DS isn't massively adventurous but LOVES food and eating out.

We're going down tomorrow (Thursday) morning on the train - coming back Saturday pm after watching the Newcastle match in a pub somewhere

My 11 year old DS loves Oxford street for shopping as he can shop until he drops. Loves Selfridges and can’t go there without choosing some billtong from the deli and loves the big Nike store.
For something different for lunch and not expensive we recently tried this cheese place, each cheese is paired with another flavour and it was super fun and just the two of us so was fun chatting about the different flavours. https://www.thecheesebar.com/seven-dials/

He also loved this virtual reality place and it had a robot barman https://sandboxvr.com/

Any bar with an activity goes down well with him as he feels it’s more grown up but still fun. Did the mini golf one recently but there is all sorts from F1 race car machines bars, darts, table tennis etc just check what age they need to be to enter and for different times of day.

Pick & Cheese - The Cheese Bar - Seven Dials / Covent Garden

Cheese and Wine, done differently. Take a seat at our Conveyor Belt of British Cheese, in Covent Garden. Bookings for 4+ only.

There's tube strikes coming up so check that out

NorthernGirlie · 03/01/2024 16:31

@Florin that's amazing, thank you! I'll look through all of those with him tonight!

Looks like the first strike is 7th @madeinmanc so we'll be home by then - phew!

There are engineering works in the east coast mainline on the 6th - no trains out of King's Cross

Forgotmylogindetails · 03/01/2024 16:50

How old is he ?

Dinodrivingacar · 03/01/2024 16:56

Titanosaur is on display until 7th, if you can get tickets I'd highly recommend!!

NorthernGirlie · 03/01/2024 16:56

@premiur oh no - I just booked it! It stops at St Pancras too... is that walkable? We were hoping to watch the match in the geordie friendly pub near King's Cross

Sorry should have said- at the natural history museum

newyearnewknees · 03/01/2024 16:58

The stranger things show is on at the theatre!

Alwaystired2023 · 03/01/2024 16:58

Have you been to Canary Wharf? You can go up to the gardens at the Crossrail Place Roof Gardens - there's lots to see walking around CW and a food hall type place called Market Place which is really good fun

Alwaystired2023 · 03/01/2024 17:00

Sorry also there is a new free viewing platform that has launched just over from London Bridge on Bishopsgate called Horizon22 - after you could walk 10mins up to Spitalfields market with lots of food options and also good fun. Both indoors incase of rain

katmunchkin · 03/01/2024 17:00

The train doesn't stop at both Kings Cross and St Pancras - the little man symbol shows you need to walk between the two stations to catch your train from St Pancras 🙂 - it's about a 5 minute walk x

We've done bubble planet this holiday which was fun, boxpark nearby at Wembley for lunch maybe? Gunpowder plot at Tower of London or war of the worlds nearby? Novelty automation museum is very fun as well.

Forgotmylogindetails · 03/01/2024 17:15

Was just going to say bubble planet and mine range from 25 to 11 so it’s good for everyone … just mooch it’s a beautiful city x

HonoriaLucastaDelagardie · 03/01/2024 17:40

Does he like graphic novels/manga/comics/gaming/sci fi/fantasy? He might like the Forbidden Planet Megastore in Shaftesbury Avenue. Books, comics, all kinds of merchandise. Close to Seven Dials/Covent Garden if you're in that area.

The British Library, next door to St Pancras, usually has a couple of free exhibitions on, if you have a bit of time to kill.

And as pp said, just mooching around. Walk along the river or around the City, hop on and off buses, get him used to finding his way around on the Tube - let him plan the journey, find out which line you need to take, in which direction.

NorthernGirlie · 04/01/2024 11:10

We're on the train! I'm desperate to do the cheese place but ds and dh aren't keen. I need a trip with my pals!
