Nutella reaction

My 12 year old daughter (who has no allergies previously) had Nutella and pancakes in a friend s house yesterday and shortly afterwards felt really unwell.

She started sneezing, eyes watering, crying, sore ear, sore throat. She was as sick as I've ever seen her so took a Piriton and a Panadol and went to bed.
An hour later she felt fine again. But her face looked weirdly swollen (eye sockets, nose). As she said her eyes were a different shape

Was this an allergic reaction do you think and what should we do about it?

Many thanks

Yes that's an ige reaction so you need to see GP and ask for a referral for allergy testing to determine if she needs to carry an epi pen

Take photographs of her face in its swollen state for reference to share with doctor.

It sounds like a reaction. It may not even be a reaction to the Nutella. If she was eating pancakes it could have been a reaction to egg, milk, or any number of things. For any allergic reaction that causes swelling or respiratory symptoms (e.g sneezing), you should ask for a referral to the allergy clinic as there is a chance of progression to anaphylaxis.

Also tip I was given by the allergy team was to observe for a minimum of 2 hours after a reaction, even if antihistamines have been given as there is a risk of secondary anaphylaxis, which often presents as sleepiness and/or pallor.
