Airfryer query

We're thinking of getting an air fryer...and noticed the 7.6 ninja dual is reduced heavily at argos. (And now worried its because they want to get rid of it!)

I dont know enough about air fryers.

Is the drawer irritating? As in getting things in and out. I want to be able to do chicken breasts and things I'd usually put on a tray for example. Can you space 4 breasts out?

Our usual meals are breasts and roasted veg, salmon and veg, and then things I'll still do on the hob like 3 bean chilli (!).

I want to be able to roast chickpeas and do chicken nuggets easy too but also don't want my teen loving off nuggets.

What about tofu? I prefer it crispy...

Any thoughts as to relative merits of airfryers and if this is what I want?!

I bought the ninja back in August and I haven't used my oven since (well only for bigger items like a roast chicken or a pizza)

It's honestly the best thing I've ever bought.
Chicken is really nice on the airfryer and a lot quicker than oven cooking.

You can get little silicone trays on Amazon which make cleanup a bit easier.

There is a 'crisp' setting so if you want chips etc extra crispy you put it on that setting.
Honestly has changed the way I cook and much more time efficient now

Would highly recommend

Thankyou.

Stupid question.... but if i put veg in will they be "roast" veg? So still use hob for soft veg?

And what sort of meals do you do?

OP posts:
coffeewithmilk · 03/01/2024 06:04

Yes it will roast the veg - I occasionally boil my veg if I still want it soft and boiled.

I love doing chicken fajitas, homemade meatballs, toasted sandwiches
I've also made fairy cakes and hard boiled eggs in the air fryer

Have a look at the book or instagram 'bored of lunch' he has a good recipe book for the airfryer

Oh wow hadn't thought of toasted sandwiches or eggs!!!

Another silly question. Can you do anything that's coated like marinated? Or otherwise wet?

And anyone got 7.6 dual?

Will it do what I want?

I’ve not used my air fryer for anything except party food and chicken yet, but I’m in a FB group and other people have done all sorts of things in theirs. From lasagne to lemon drizzle cake!

Sandytoxic · 03/01/2024 06:16

We tried hard boiled eggs in it this week and they were a disaster!

But I love it for making croutons and garlic bread, as well as roast veg,

Mumtime2 · 03/01/2024 06:22

Chicken whole or pieces are delicious and succulent airfried.

Marinated, yes.
Roast vegies are good, but I oil mine prior to airfrying.
Chips and nuggets are so good.
Schnitzels, chicken fillets, fish.
Look online for some recipes or airfry cookbooks.
I got mine half price as they alway upgraded appliances.
I would check for a spare tray if it has one.
I have never used liners but think I will from now on.

ThreeBeanChilli · 03/01/2024 06:33

Oh no sandy! I like the idea if popping eggs in a basket and them coming out done!

I am hoping not to do so much of the party food/nuggets and more making veg/protein easier to access.

The 7.6 dual is currently reduced to 140...

I've got the slightly bigger 9.5 dual Max and can cook a small whole
Chicken in it

I've nkt down recipes in tk like fajitas but use it most days for cooking chicken e fish sausages chips and of course freezer tapas type food eg nuggets!

When we moved into our new house a few months ago, the oven here was broken. We bought the ninja dual to use until we replaced the oven. We haven't bothered replacing the oven and we don't plan to until we replace the kitchen, probably in a year or so!

We have the hob and the air fryer, and that's enough. The air fryer gets used every day, multiple times.

We cook things from toast and toasties, to meat joints, to lasagne and party food. I used it as a casserole dish without the tray insert, so can cook things like chicken in a marinade. I recommend them to everyone who visits!

ThreeBeanChilli · 03/01/2024 07:07

Toast?!? Just put a slice of bread in? What's the advantage over a toaster? (Can I ditch the toaster....)

Lasagne?! I hadn't realised they would do wet food! So pasta bakes etc? Mac and cheese??

Also silly q but does it get hot around it? Can I put it where under a cupboard/on the sideboard?

Regards the location of the air fryer. They do get warm when in use. Best to have them on a surface (not under cupboards etc) because they can get greasy. I've had mine for a year now and we use it every day. Have a two drawer (8 litre) one. I have never added oil to anything I cook. I take the racks out if I want to do anything like a casserole. Not made cake in it yet.....not quite brave enough!!! 😏

ThreeBeanChilli · 03/01/2024 07:14

Wow this does sound the way forwards...

Got the ninja duel and haven't used the oven since.

The air fryer itself doesn't get hot, just the inside of drawers. So far have found it so easy to use and it's used multiple times daily.

Kids dinners, marinated chicken breasts, home made chips, veg, toasties, bagels, fry up food, burgers.

Haven't ventured to anything fancy like cakes etc yet.

Had a bake, air fry, crisp, reheat, dehydrate function

It sits on our kitchen worktop as it's so well used. I do a lot of meal prep for work so it's so handy to fire things in and save time.

Found it really easy to clean.

Defo best investment I've ever made.

Game changer.

shellyleppard · 03/01/2024 07:19

Threebeanchill
We still have a normal oven but it only gets used for homemade pizzas, or cooking vegetables to go with the stuff cooked in air fryer. Enjoy!!!

Brumbies · 03/01/2024 07:28

Love my Ninja.

Tip, pull it away from the wall when using and stack your plates behind it. It warms them up beautifully (I hate hot food on cold plates)

Perfectlystill · 03/01/2024 07:28

I have a new ninja air fryer and love it but want to know how you are all using air fryers for toasted sandwiches!

Please can someone explain!

ThreeBeanChilli · 03/01/2024 07:37

Yes I didn't know you could do toast or toasties!

You're all convincing me. Thankyou 😁.

Now to work out where it would go ...

Make up your toastie as you would normally and just put it on the crisper af for 5/6 mins, turn halfway through.

OldTinHat · 03/01/2024 07:44

I've had my 7 in 1 Ninja for 5yrs and, as others have said, haven't used my oven since except for cooking pizza.

The multi function is great because it can saute, sear, bake, crisp, slow cook, pressure cook and grill. You might want to consider one of those instead of a drawer one.

Mine is old now, with the newer versions you can make yogurts and ice cream in, I believe.

Sandytoxic · 03/01/2024 09:32

Disclaimer on the eggs, we were aiming for soft boiled dippy ones.but if you wanted to do a batch of hard boiled that might work ok.

DH has circled the programme on tonight’s telly, air fryers vs microwave.
