I really enjoy knitting but the finished results are disappointing. Any ideas that aren't cooking or reading? Thanks

Sewing is a broad spectrum - you could sew simple clothes, or do patchwork quilting or leather work. I started off dressmaking then got into patchwork, and now I'm making handbags.

I'd love to do a proper jewellery course - not just the threading-beads kind but the proper metal work and designing with gemstones.

Have you tried crocheting the knitted pieces together ?

I didn't know you could!

Thanks for the ideas!

OP, how long have you been knitting? Is it only sewing the pieces that's giving you grief? Upcoming "well duh" moment: it's all a matter of practice and, with the actual knitting part, muscle memory. What types of seaming have you tried? Mattress stitch is a pain to learn and slow to do on jumpers and the like, but it's worth persisting for smooth seams. Or as PP have suggested, crocheting the seams (I don't know how to do that). Or knitting in the round, so there's very little seaming at all.

Good luck, whatever you choose!

Just back to say Futurelearn have free courses all online, as well and I’ve just downloaded an app to start learning capital cities which looks fun :-)

Other than reading, I enjoy gardening....particularly growing fruit and vegetables which I primarily do in pots so it's pretty accessible even if you only have a small space.

Walking and listening to an interesting podcast so I'm exercising and learning at the same time.

I also like colouring books for adults and doing crosswords and other puzzles.

Family history? You'd need to take out a subscription to Ancestry or Find My Past, but almost any hobby has some costs.

Organising photos into albums (physical or just online) and or scrapbooking? Jigsaws, crystal art, putting together a family tree

Yozzer87 · 03/01/2024 15:26

Another vote for Crystal art.

Music, either learning an instrument or listening to a series of items, or perhaps learning more about a particular musician, composer, style of music?
