Yes I know I'm probably boring lots of people. But my threads keep me motivated. Amd it's turned from very negative to positive. So I feel its definitely helping.

Anyway these are pictures of my room . It was taken several weeks back my bed now faces the large window. Apart from that it's pretty much the same

I do not want a hanging wardrobe. Although I would not mind one that has shelving /drawers.

Decorating wise I think I would like wallpaper possibly a feature wall? But I'm not sure what wall I would have it on. I don't know what colours I want at all . Definitely no dark colours.

Oh also I only sleep in my room . I don't chill In there or anything.

I feel very on edge tonight because of other stuff, so I want to try and keep this positive so i can distance myself from it a bit.

What amazing big windows - I’d be tempted to make a feature by having fitted blinds - the ones that fit into the window frames (think they’re called perfect fit? Anyway they’re expensive so maybe just floaty white curtains.

I second the plant idea too xx

Good luck - you did an AMAZING job on your boys’ room so it’s lovely you’re giving your own space the same TLC.

It feels harder to do my room 😫 until the 18 months or so it's been several years since I had a bedroom. And I have kind of forgot. Don't know what to do with it now I have it 😅

Feature wall with pale colours. I love this heron print

Heron wallpaper

Also Turn your bed to face the window and get some floaty thick nets for a cool look. Ikea do some very cheap nets and sheers and you could do both windows for £20 each, even with 3 nets per window

Grey Heron Wallpaper

The subject is the heron with the sharp contrast between the grey texture background and the white plumage, the soft light... these are the elements of this magnificent wallpaper. The hand-drawn paper retains all the materiality of the watercolor. Rega...

No mirror because I don't want to see myself.

Yeah im not sure I'm very torn leaving it plain does not give me a challenge or anything to aim for but it also makes sense because it leaves it bright

Get a white textured bed set so you have interest but its still a plain colour

I think you should fill the wall behind the door (where the dresser is) with IKEA Malm dressers. It’s always good to have more storage than you need. I would replace the curtains for something a bit more earthy, paint the walls olive, buy wooden nightstands and place lamps on them, have a white fluffy rug under the bed, a large floor standing plant between the windows and then smaller plants in the window + art on the walls.

wall colour and dresser for reference.

I would definitely want some proper storage to hide all the not-so-pretty bits to the right of the window. If you're good at DIY, you could do an IKEA hack built-in wardrobe. Alternatively, a curtain like in the pictures below would be a quick, easy and much cheaper option.

Yes I could do that I already have 1 ikea chest of drawers so I could fill that wall with drawers other ideas sound good to. I'm going to look up some bits

There isn’t much but you can create coziness with plants, art, colour (but not too bright) and soft furnishings. The big windows will definitely help too. For being a new build you have been really very lucky with the current features and size.

NewYearNewPyjamas · 01/01/2024 21:05

That room is bloody gorgeous! Such a blank canvas as well! You could make that into a sleep sanctuary with ease!

I like the wallpaper picjture you shared - vibrant. You could do a feauture wall and leave the rest magnolia/white. I'd put the bed on the wall opposite the windows as that radiator meaning its off centre would annoy me. Or I'd get one of those radiator covers and make it a feature.

Keep going with your posts. I've seen them and it's really helped me to be honest - nice to know I'm not the only one.

I would like to pick up on the comment about mirrors. I'm sorry you feel this way and I'm sure it's much like your house - nowhere near as bad as you think it is. If you don't like what you see you can find ways to feel better about yourself. I look like absolute shit right now. Awful. But come tomorrow when I've showered and paid myself a bit of attention I'll be so much better! Give yourself the same attention you're giving your house Flowers

NewYearNewPyjamas · 01/01/2024 21:07

See you've already put your bed there. I'll learn not to scan at some point. Get a radiator cover tho. I envy people who have them.

MrsMoastyToasty · 01/01/2024 21:08

Are you keeping or changing the curtains? If you are keeping them I would add a border at the bottom to make them full length as they look a bit sparse with the gap at the bottom between the hem and the floor. The colour isn't right in the picture I've found but it gives you an idea. I would also hang voiles to give you privacy without the need to close the curtains every time you change your clothes.

I would also add a mirror between the 2 windows, even if you only use it to check you haven't tucked your skirt into your knickers! Been there, done that!

I would also find some soft furnishings like bedding and cushions that you like with some pattern and get some paint matched at a dulux decorator centre to pick out a favourite colour in the design (it's easier to match paint to fabrics rather than the other way round). The walls look to be in good condition and paint is cheaper than wallpaper.

I'd also look at maximising storage on the wall where the unit is. Something from Ikea perhaps or upcycled wardrobes/chest of drawers/dressing table painted one colour for a cohesive look.

As a quick fix, if your bed is now facing the windows, on the wall that is now on the left hand side (the wall that is behind the head of the bed in the picture) you could move your chest of drawers to that wall and see how it looks with pictures or photos of your family on it, maybe a couple of battery tea light type candles (not real fire risk candles) and a real/fake plant/flowers, and also perhaps a picture just leaning up against the wall, and see if you like that? If you like the picture that might mean you might want to make that wall a feature wallpaper wall.

Also, in the gap between the windows, you might like to hang some pictures - not sure if there is room for a tallboy now your bed has changed direction, otherwise that would be great.

Are your curtains dark red, not sure, anyway you could get a couple of cushions and throw blanket to match or tone with them and put them on your bed. A picture behind.above your bed would be nice too.

And totally agree to have Malm drawers in a line in the wall as you come in from the door, again you could put something on those.

Also agree with PP who suggest nets on the windows and/or decorative window film, both would be very nice. If you had window nets and then also the fake wardrobe net curtain suggested above, then you would have a nice floaty light feel to the room given it has plenty of natural light and pale walls.

How i feel about myself and how I look in a whole different thing . I don't want to go there because I will get upset. But thank you for touching on it 💐

Yeah I think I like that wallpaper. Would it make sense to put it behinde the head board?

The wallpaper? 100% your bed is quite neutral and will easily apply itself well to whatever you do! I wish my room looked like that.

Strictly no mirrors in my bedroom . That's a massive no for me.

I can't do the hem thing I would mess it up . I could possibly move the curtains rail down voils is a good idea.

I will probably do ikea for drawers etc

I think it's a lovely room.
I like the photo a PP added, with the rattan chair, think I would get a Rattan style lampshade and stick to beige, wooden accessories, with white overall.
Have you moved the bed to face the window, do you like the idea?

MrsMoastyToasty · 01/01/2024 21:46

Have you tried the Dulux app? Hours of fun trying out colours without actually doing any painting!
