What's the worst scar you've got, from an operation or accident?

I have the C-Section scar which isn't so bad, can still see it but not too much.

And you?

NC as I've posted before with this but here's mine!

Goodness! How did you contract mesothelioma and at such a young age?

I was exposed as a very (very) young child and somehow ingested the vibes rather than inhaled them so my cancer is in my abdo. Ranged from pelvis to diaphragm.

A-okay now! I'm NED, the chances of it coming back are high due to the fact they can't remove the minute asbestos fibres but healed nicely now I'll see if I can find a pic

Daniagainagainagain · 01/01/2024 22:09

Tis' me now!

As soon as I was allowed I put copious amounts of bio oil on and coconut oil, had medical massages etc.

Im glad my belly button has gone as I have an irrational fear of them.

But healed lovely, I never thought it would heal this well but I put a lot of time into healing my scar, everyone on my mums side suffers from keloid scars so I'm very lucky really!

Scar across my throat from having my thyroid removed. First operation removed half, found cancer so had a second operation to remove the rest of the thyroid and to scrape out tissue from the Tumor site.
1st operation scar was thick and lumpy so the surgeon cut that scar off and made a new bigger incision. Is still noticeable after almost 14 years.
Scar down the side of my boob from having suspicious lymph nodes removed. I can’t wear a vest top as I feel uncomfortable people seeing it.

Fraaahnces · 01/01/2024 23:14

I have a connective tissue disorder and scar weirdly. I’m covered in atrophic scars. I have had to have my arm and my shoulder reconstructed. The scar on my left elbow is about 25cm long and my shoulder has about 5 7-10cm scars. I have had surgery to “reattach” my dislocated thumb - twice, leaving a scar on the back of my wrist that is the same width as my wrist. I have had several gastric surgeries, two c-sections and an emergency hysterectomy. A mosquito bite left a big, hollow scar under my eyebrow. One or two barnacles (moles) removed for biopsy (they were fine) and they look like bullet holes.

Tootytoot78 · 01/01/2024 23:16

I had a mastectomy 20 years ago, and a reconstruction using the latissimus dorsi muscle so I have a very thin silvery scar on my back.

I’ve got scars galore! I’m hugely accident prone! Yesterday we were playing articulate with our friends and DP just said “You’ve got loads of them!” And we won the point!

I have two on my left wrist (ganglion removal and metal plate insertion after break), one down my back (spinal fusion), 3 on my face (got run over) but two of them have been repaired by a plastic surgeon so are only visible if I point them out, one on each knee (separate falling over incidents) and several chicken pox scars which were worse because I had the worst case of chicken pox my 60 year old doctor had ever seen and contacted sepsis at the same time. Three of these happen to be perfectly circular and regularly spaced just above my nose - it looks like I’ve been stabbed with a fork…

I have a lovely scar on my ankle now after surgery for a break. It's still red and looks angry but it was only done in August.

Good for you! I hope you stay healthy!

LadyR77 · 02/01/2024 11:28

I have 2 scars on my wrist from 2 osteotomy operations. Both about 4 inches long, one is on the underside of my wrist an the other is on the side. Both have faded a lot but still noticeable.

Not quite the same thing as mine was a trivial scar but:

I was holding a cat as a teenager and it got startled by someone slamming the doors and jumped out of my arms scratching me as it went

The scratches were quite deep on one arm across the wrist and I scar easily so they scarred and the scars really stood out

So I spent my teenage years with teachers and other adults eyeing up my wrist scars suspiciously obviously trying to work out if they should be concerned about self harm or suicide attempts

My cat scratched me never sounded like anything other than a pathetic excuse either!

I have a vertical 4-inch scar on my wrist (from surgery to fix a fracture that didn't properly heal). Similarly, @JustanotherMNSlapperTwat, I get the side eye from strangers, as my scar strongly resembles one caused by self harm.

WithASpider · 02/01/2024 15:28

I have scars on each palm from carpal tunnel surgery, one on my left thumb from trigger thumb surgery, many cat scratch scars including 3 on my face from when I was 10, 2 on the side of my right hand from breaking a window aged 14, a vaccination scar that looks like a bullet hole, a 1 inch scar on my knee from falling onto a camper step, one on my forehead from a radiator, and one on the inside of my left thigh from DB throwing scissors at me.

Probably have many more tiny ones too!

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 02/01/2024 15:41

A number of scars dotted over my body 🙄 ranging from a 2” one under my lip from falling of my bike as a child, both knees from falling over ditto, my right ankle’s got several from comminuted fracture/dislocation surgery (lucky not to lose my foot!). My hands have numerous scars from various accidents with knives, glass, gardening. Surgery scars from several laparotomies, appendicitis and hysterectomy. Breast - lumpectomy.

gano · 02/01/2024 15:42

I have my c section scar, which i don't notice any more. Two chicken pox scars on my face and these are noticeable, people often rudely ask me what they are. Then I also have a scar on my forehead, next to my hairline, where my brother hit me on the head with a toy when he was a toddler.

Powaqa · 02/01/2024 15:57

I have had open heart surgery so have a scar down the middle of my chest. I also have the scars from the three chest drains. As it was for a quad bypass, I also
have two small scars on my right leg. I was lucky in that they did keyhole surgery on my leg due to my age (they said I was young for this ). Unfortunately, I suffer from psoriasis, and they didn't heal well.
My chest scars are keloid. I dont cover them up as I class them as battle scars and i have earned my warrior badge

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 02/01/2024 16:07

Small scar by my right nostril caused by faceplanting off a zip wire.
My c-section scar, which I can no longer see.
My left hip replacement. It was done on the side of my hip. The scar is about 5 inches long and three years old, so now faded to silver. But causes quite the dimple if I clench that buttock.

Longwhiskers · 02/01/2024 16:29

C-section scars

one on my forehead where I fell off my bike as a child (no helmet) and had it stitched up

one across the back of my ear after my ear was bitten off by an animal when I was 11

a right angled corner shaped scar on my forearm after a blind totally randomly fell off the window while I was beside it and the metal attachment bit sunk into my arm

a silver scar about the side of a 10p piece from a car accident when I was a child - dad slammed on the breaks and my leg hit the metal attachment on the back of the driver’s chair, blood everywhere.

Mumaway · 02/01/2024 16:32

Hint from a surgeon-tape your scars to accelerate healing and fading. You can use silicon scar tape (which is expensive but reusable) or just Elastoplast or Micropore. Try to keep it on all the time except bathing, for up to 12months. Also make sure you use sunblock on your scar for 2 years.

athingofbeauty · 02/01/2024 16:51

Hot tip for those of you who scar badly, as I do -- I have found silicone-based scar serums make a huge difference if you start at once and keep using them for months. Use the plasters form because that way it stays on all day, and use an ordinary plaster on top because the scar plasters seem to roll off easily. Keep using it for months.
Dunno if they help with old scars, though they claim to.

christmaspawpaws · 02/01/2024 17:21

Armpit one and my back one
Armpit is a pain as it's healed with a dent so I have to shave and then use a trimmer to get rid of hair

catbitescar · 03/01/2024 13:29

I have one from a cat bite, I trapped her tail in the toilet seat & she took a chunk out of my leg!

Mine looks like a shark bite, a very definite piece missing, needed a skin graft, nearly 12 months ago!

I really struggled with it at first, I couldn't look at it for ages! I could rub the E45 cream in but couldn't actually look at it!
