Taking clothes to the charity shop

Is it ok to take clothes that are las their best to the charity shop.

I though they could recycle them and make money from the if they are not saleable. Or am I mistaken?

What makes clothes unsalable.

I sell most of my things on vinted so do charity shops want the worn out primark tops or not?

I don’t think they do tbh it takes time to sort etc. You can donate marked as rags or just take them to a pay by the kilo place for clothes.

I volunteer in a charity shop sometimes
We absolutely take clothes (clean please!) that are well past they best. They go in the “rag bag” and we get a small amount of money for them.

Put them in a separate bag and clearly label them as 'RAGS'

They just bin them, as far as I know. If an item of clothing is difficult to sell due to it having seen better days, they just bin it.

All clean just shrunk or stained faded tiny holes etc!

Ok I'll label up as rags in separate bags

I've volunteered sorting in a charity shop too. they sell them as rags. almost nothing got wasted. was very heartening to see what an amazing job they do.

Your alternative OP is the big metal textile recycling bins that you sometimes see in supermarket car parks or at the recycling centre. Sometimes they can be easier to get to.

Ohmylovejune · 01/01/2024 17:31

We sorted into good quality and poor condition/rags.

I called the charity shop first who asked only for the good condition.

We put the rags into a special recycling skip marked for these at the local supermarket.

I've seen the rag bins but they look so horrible recently although I and have used them in the past.

I will sort and see what the charity shop will do.

I know our local charity shop will take rags and I bag them up separately for them. We do have a recycling bin nearby, but it's always overflowing. One of our local charity shops has a bargain bin for clothes needing a bit of tlc. So sometimes they resell too

Kwam31 · 01/01/2024 17:47

What do you expect a rag bin to look like?
Use them as cleaning clothes yourself, don't give unsalable stuff to charity shops.
