Hi, just wondering if anyone had made the move from ward work to a research position? I'm fancying a change, but have no experience whatsoever in research, probably wouldn't even get an interview. Those that work in this area as nurses, what is it like? Is it so far removed from ward nursing to feel like a completely different career? Do you like it? Would really appreciate any thoughts and opinions.

Hi I am a research nurse, iv done research for 3 years and previously did ICU nursing for 7 years, it was the best move I ever made, the work is really varied and is a mix of patient contact and computer work, it’s totally different to bedside nursing but you can bring your skills with you, I work in generic research so cover different areas but you can do just on specific speciality, completing your good clinical practice online will give you a good start to understanding what it’s all about

Thank you for responding. The job was in paeds oncology research, I filled in the application but bottled it at the last moment.... Wasn't sure if it was a challenge too far for me. I could do my current job with my eyes closed and I think I have become lazy. I know I need to push myself, so I will keep a look out. Thanks again.
