New Year New mouse

I just had an exterminator in this morning to put bait down in the kitchen as I discovered mice there on Christmas Day.

Watching TV tonight I saw a tiny one dart under the sofa in the living room! Cheeky little beggar!!

Had a good spray around with the peppermint spray...this morning I was happily telling the mouse man that they hadn't strayed out from behind the kitchen cabinets 🤦🏻‍♀️

I hate having mice 😫😫😫

Was he your first footer??

BlackJumpsuit · 01/01/2024 01:00

@scaredofff 🤣🤣
I think so yes!!
But what does this mean? Is it a bad sign?!

Ooh no! I feel your pain.

A mouse jumped out at me from behind the kitchen bin last week. I'm embarrassed to say I screamed Shock

DH put mouse bait behind the bin and it's been nibbled, but I can still hear the little feckers scrabbling about behind the skirting boards. Urrgh.

This time of year is the worst for them, I think it's all the food sitting around in December. I swear they can smell Christmas cake from the garden!

You probably need to put down some snap traps to get them all, then make sure no food is left sitting out and sweep/dirty dishes are sorted before bed and hopefully you won't attract any more in until next winter

BlackJumpsuit · 01/01/2024 01:07

I hate that scrabbling sound 🥲
The bait should work really fast according to the exterminator. But only if they eat it and he didn't put any under the sofa 😐

Absolutely, behind the kitchen cabinets alone there must be enough crumbs that I can't reach to raise several generations!

Snap traps are out, I'll save the deep cleaning under the sofa for tomorrow - what fun!

I had a mouse in the bedroom but the mouse man said nah, we go straight to the source. He put bait in the kitchen and it worked. You really don't want bait in your living room or bedroom.

BlackJumpsuit · 01/01/2024 01:15

@MorrisZapp that makes sense! I think I need to be more patient.

Oh god, we have them at the moment in the 1st floor ceiling. It's a really old house. I'm worried it's a rat. We had one before and it died in the wall cavity. I still have nightmares about the smell

IHatesMeecesToPieces · 01/01/2024 17:32

@Beignet that sounds awful!!

Been out today but the trap hasn't gone off - mouse guy said they get wise to them quickly.

Don’t exterminate the cute tiny Meece’s 🐭

MargaretThursday · 01/01/2024 17:57

I was going to say ds had one for Christmas. It flashes lights and apparently is superior in every way.

I like mice. Anyway, they say with mice you don't get spiders, and I'd rather have mice.

Houseplantmad · 01/01/2024 18:23

We have mice - we thought it was just the one but we have caught 8 so far. Today DD discovered her Christmas chocolate coins in the front room have been nibbled so they’re clearly in there too. I hate having them in the house.

I don't want to but I also don't want them in my house 😢

sharonelizabeth · 01/01/2024 20:04

Had mice since August, I’ve tried everything but with no success, finally blocked as many entry points inside and out, seems to have worked.

IHatesMeecesToPieces · 06/01/2024 10:36

Well they're still around - didn't like the first type of bait apparently!

One came confidently skipping out from under the sofa yesterday when it had been really quiet for a while 😂

I'm finding more places that they've been - it's just getting more and more annoying and making me uncomfortable 🥲

We do have a pet on the house - a non mouse catching type of pet (not cat or dog) - could that be making the problem worse I wonder? Food, hay around etc? (Not downstairs though).

IHatesMeecesToPieces · 06/01/2024 10:37

@sharonelizabeth
Were all the places you blocked on the ground floor? I know they can get into the tiniest of gaps.

PrimalOwl10 · 06/01/2024 10:48

We had our first mouse on christmas day as we were opening our presents. We never had mice for the last 8 years here. I found where they have got in and plugged it up. We have caught 4 so far all in the same place in my bedroom where I put the trap. We don't know what's attracting them to our bedroom. We think as we have a dog downstairs they are going up. My dd bedroom had food typical preteen in it so I've completely gutted it out. I'm losing sleep over it. I'm glad I'm not the only one the humane traps don't seem to work so sending them back.

sharonelizabeth · 07/01/2024 15:31

Yes, some outside and in the skirting board. It’s a 1930’s house so lots of gaps. I’ve live here for 25 years and never had a problem but there has been a lot of building work a few houses down and I think they’ve disturbed a nest. My neighbour has them too.

BreakingAndBroke · 17/03/2024 22:11

Hello all, I have just found some mouse poop and nibbles packaging in one of my cupboards 😭 What traps did you all use?

Lots of posts saying December/January are the worst months - does that mean they go and find somewhere else to live in the Spring? 🤞
