Kitchen aids are so expensive!! I currently have an 18 year old kenwood which has served me very well but the plastic/paint is coming off the bits which you mix with. I looked at replacing but they are quite pricey and with an old machine think it may be better getting a new one!

Don't buy a kitchenaid! Loads of the attachments are not dishwasher safe and are flimsy!

I have 2 kenwoods - one is 26 years old and looks it but still works very well, the other is a youngster at only 5 (l inherited it) so it still looks shiny and new! All the bits go in the dishwasher and there are many many attachments available.

Love my KitchenAid. No problems with ant of the attachments.

I love my KitchenAid. I have a Kenwood too and it's great but I prefer the KitchenAid. I wash all the attachments by hand for both of them anyway.

My Kenwood is over 40 years old and still works. I think it could do with a bit of an oil, but it's fine. My DD has inherited her Grandma's and that's over 50. Maybe the newer ones are a bit rubbish?

Beebumble2 · 30/12/2023 17:55

I have always had Kenwoods, my 40+ one was replaced by a newer version. It’s just as good as the old one, but better looking!

I have a Kitchenaid - had it about twenty years now. Have replaced the dough hook with a stainless steel one (not genuine KA) and bought a spare bowl. I have the pasta making attachment, but that's all. I use it 2-3 times a week now, mostly for bread dough. In the past, I used it every day, but I don't bake as much now.

I wash the attachments by hand, apart from the stainless steel dough hook. The pasta making bit just needs brushing.

I have a Kenwood in my cupboard gathering dust as I hate the damn thing. I bought it reconditioned from eBay for about 100 5 years ago. Probably only used it 6 times. I'd say you could have it for postage if this site wasn't anonymous!

Watching a little as in a similar quandary.

i have a 10 year old kenwood stand mixer (not a chef, it’s a Patissier) and it’s so heavy and solid and makes great dough, whisks and beats. But that’s all it does - I have a separate blender and processor for soups, chopping and slicing. Now my patissier dough hook is loosing its coating and I can’t get a replacement.

my conclusion so far is a stand mixer of any kind (kenwood K Mix, Kenwood Pattisier or kitchen Aid) all only really mix or whisk or dough.

Whereas a kenwood chef has the option of doing a LOAD more useful things in essentially one appliance.

but heck - they are pricey.

let us know what you decide OP!! I’ll be right behind you!!

Kenwood! Especially if you already have extra attachments. I use mine several times a week! I love the carrot grater!

APurpleSquirrel · 30/12/2023 18:31

Love my KitchenAid - it's over 10 years old & still looks new.
The attachments aren't flimsy! What a weird thing to say? I've only had to replace one in a decade.

Love my kitchenaid.

We have lots of adaptions:

Juicer
Ice cream maker
Are the ones that we use most regularly. We did have a problem with the ice cream maker in that the first time we used it, we found a crack in the bowl, but we contacted them and they replaced it without any fuss at all. We've used it extensively since then with no issues.
