4 year NCB. And my insurance still went up this year. (No changes since last insurance) Last year I paid £850 this year £1,250! Has this happened to anyone else? I have looked elsewhere and still getting similiar quotes. Not happy at all!!

also is it worth protecting NCB?

Definitely protect your ncb. Insurance has shot up. Try direct line?

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 30/12/2023 10:18

Its the same across the board. Mine nearly doubled. Higher costs for labour and parts it being cited as the main reasons.

Its always worth protecting your NCB. You will still have to declare a claim but your NCB stays intact, altho most insurers have a limit on how many claims before protected NCB is affected.

Hm mine went up by £450 with my insurer and I shopped around and got it for less than the price I'd paid that year (so my old insurer was eg £500 ish, renewal quote £950 and my new one was £490).

I'm not particularly savvy with finding these things either! Changed from Hastings to first central. Sorry, no help on no claims!

Try searching on incognito browser too, as when you've searched previously, you don't seem to get good prices as the browser picks up you've already looked at the quotes.

@molly1995 thank you for your reply. Not sure if I should wait for another two weeks and see if it drops. My insurance is due end of Jan. I’ll try ignito. Thank you.

@DeltaAlphaDelta79 is there a way to find out why it has gone up?

@CormorantStrikesBack I will try them. Thank you

Martin Lewis has been talking about this for MONTHS. Car insurance is up about 40%.

2chocolateoranges · 30/12/2023 12:39

We have two cars, one went up by £200 the one where our 20 something year old children drive doubled in price!!.

dreading what this year will be.

BaublesAndGlitter · 30/12/2023 12:53

Insurance is similar to all other bills at the moment and is just going up and up for almsot everyone.
My renewal price was £150 more than last year from my current insurer.
I used Confused and got some cheaper quotes.

I did read somewhere that 3 weeks before your renewal date is when you'll get the best prices so I did that this year (my renewal is 7th Jan) and got mine for a similar price to last year.

I'd always protect my NCB. Generally you get a quote then a discount applied based on the amount of years NCB you have (up to about 8 years). If you have a claim, your overall quote will go up but you'll still get the discount because you'll still have your ncb.

Elleherd · 30/12/2023 13:28

Relative quoted £500 more without any changes or having done anything wrong. Shopped around and accepted a higher excess (1st £500) but same amount as current policy. Absolutely protect NCB.

This
dh and I have been driving over 30 and and over 40 years. Decades of NCD. This Autumn, prices still shot up.

Yes, it is worth protecting NCD

Its just a general thing, there wont be a specific reason that they can tell you.

anothernamechangeagainsndagain · 30/12/2023 14:15

Mine didn't go up, DD's went up £60, dsd's went up £100, dp hasn't renewed since the rises. Big rises seem to be fairly location dependent

OldTinHat · 30/12/2023 15:01

Definitely protect NCB.

My insurance doubled in November, been driving 35yrs, no changes. I used Quidco comparison and got a new insurer, same cover, just an extra £10 a year but with something like £35 or £40 cashback so way cheaper ultimately.

CandyCaneLane0 · 30/12/2023 15:19

Same, mine was £620 last year, £960 this year.
The best time to get quotes is about 21 days before your renewal is due, they should be lowest then

Hi

Quick question. I am driving my father in laws car (mines is in garage) his policy covers on Social and Domestic. Can I purchase a Commuting policy seperately for his car to allow me to drive to work, without him having to add this to his insurance as he is retired and doesnt work?

Thanks
Loraine
