Do I need ears need re piercing

I used to any wear earring all the time and then not and then wear them again but for the last few years they have been really uncomfortable

I can get earrings in but have to take them out after a short while as they are uncomfortable.

I bought some flat back ones in the hope I could sleep in them but the stem is too thick.

Im now Thinking that they have partially closed over and need re-piercing - is there another seaside option. It's £35 to have them pierced. Ultimately I'd love a second piercing there too!

You may have developed an alloy allergy. I had this - one ear was so sore and kept closing up. In the end I had it re-pierced and only use titanium implant grade earrings now.

Thanks @fetaislife (agree with your username) I may have as my jeans button is really itchy!

I trained my ears to accept earrings again. I bought little tiny sleeper hoops in silver, as I've never tolerated gold well and the hoops are comfortable overnight.

I'd wear them and remove when sore, but wash and reinsert them as soon as they healed. Quite quickly I could extend the period that they stayed in.

If the holes aren't closed, you shouldn't need to re-pierce.

You can go to a piercing shop and get the hole stretched slightly if that's the issue. Cheaper and less pain than re-piercing.

@hedgehoglurker this is what i thought too.

Which earrings did you get please. There are so many I get snow blinded by the choice.

I only use implant grade titanium too. It's one of the best metals for piercings along with surgical grade stainless steel. There's a reason why professional piercers only use those metals. Change over to those and hopefully your allergies will go.

bettycat81 · 29/12/2023 22:59

Try titanium earrings. That's the metal most piercers will use initially now.

I had the same problem and got some hoops/cuffs from solace jewellery which I can leave in all the time. I still get sore ears if I wear my normal earrings for more than a few hours but I don't have to fight to get them in.

Ok so this I think is what I need along with some titanium studs/or sleepers hoops?

Will I then need to just keep them in like a fresh piercing?

@flawlessandfearless thank you I should say!

Great knowledge from Mumsnet once again!

I also recommend Solace. I’ve not been able to wear earrings for a long time until now!

This is exactly what I did just yesterday. My ears have been pierced since an infant but I stopped wearing earrings a few years ago and couldn't get them comfortably back into the holes.

The piercing lady took a look and was able to use a little rod thing to open the holes and stretch them. She inserted a special earring in that untwists at the back and front and has a hollow tube in it, that means I can slot another earring into the little tube so that it stays open, then slide the tube out from the back. I can do this after 2 weeks.

They probably won't need re pierced if you have had them pierced for years. Get in touch with a reputable tattoo/piercing studio, they'll be able to assess your ears properly and know what they are doing with the proper equipment.

Meant to say as well, the earrings she put in my ears were also titanium.

@ImTiredBoss
Wow that sounds genius!

I will go to the piercing shop tomorrow see how busy it is.
