Pre roast dinner lunch ideas

We're having a Christmas roast dinner on New Year's eve for dinner (around 7pm) . We were abroad for Christmas so haven't had a roast for a while!

Usually we'd barely have any lunch if that was coming later (soup/salad/few leftovers from the fridge) but we're hosting guests for a few days and they usually like to have proper full meals at every meal.

What would you serve?

What about soup and crusty bread. Something winter like celeriac or parsnip. Dead easy to make ahead.

A very late breakfast then some toast mid-afternoon?
Jacket potatoes, salad etc so people can help themselves to what they'd prefer
A round of toasties would go down a treat in our house but not sure that that counts as a proper full meal Wink

I'd go for soup and half a sandwich

I'd love to go for soup but I'd need something else to make it more of a meal.

When they visited before I'd planned soup for lunch ahead of a big dinner and they offered to make a pasta dish.

They won't be around for breakfast yet so unfortunately a big brekkie isn't an option. Jacket potatoes are a good idea though!

Soup is a complete meal in this house. Offering to make a pasta dish instead/as well is rude.

I'd do soup and bacon rolls (or make your own sandwiches like we usually do) then cake/mince pies/tray bake for after. If your guests don't like it, then they can go out and buy more food! I'm usually too full for dinner if I have all this for lunch.

Scrambled egg with smoked salmon as it's effectively your Christmas day? It's filling!
