I was sold wifi at a speed of 20mbps for £30 a month. If I don’t return their hub which I can’t, they will charge me £75.
is this enforceable? what will happen if I don’t pay? I don’t want to pay because they ripped me off in the first place selling me a rubbish WiFi For £30 a month

In short. Yes.
In the terms of the contract the lease the equipment to you. The issue of them in your opinion (I say in your opinion as weasel words in the contract may mean they technically have not broken the terms) not holding to the terms is irrelevant.
Should they take the issue to a small claims court unfortunately they would win.

Actually if you are using a router other than the one they provided that could well explain why you aren't getting the speed.

Silverbirchtwo · 29/12/2023 14:11

If they haven't got the hub to return it, presumably they don't know what speed they are getting.

Definitely owe for the hub if it's not returned, they may be able to argue about whether the speed was as described, but probably the company would want it proved that it is too slow if that's the problem, and it might not be the hub but the infrastructure. If they have just found a better deal it's hard luck really, should have shopped around a bit more before buying.

LlynTegid · 29/12/2023 14:14

Can you tell them the hub is available for collection? See what their response is.

ActuallyChristmas · 29/12/2023 14:20

Even reliable sources like BT want their hubs back unless obsolete. By the way, even our obsolete BT hub that was 10 years old wasn’t slow. It just kept needing resets

I always find Resolver good for complaints

SD1978 · 29/12/2023 15:53

Yes. You rent the equipment. If you dont return it, you pay for it.

scoutingfor · 29/12/2023 15:58

I think OP is pissed off that she bought shit WiFi not that she isn't getting the advertised speed.

Tough titties.

You surely agreed the contract, so were happy with 20mbps for £30 pm at some point. What has changed?

It does seem rather pricey (I pay £25 pm for 150 mbps and that includes TV) however it may be all that is available in your area.

Yes, you do need to return the router if you cancel. They are expensive bits of kit. We cancelled with BT after 6 years and they still wanted the router and TV box back. It was easy, they sent us a free post box that we simply packed the router in to and took it to the Post Office.
