Sick of Christmas decorations, party food and rain

Anyone else the same? The house is constantly untidy, cluttered with stuff everywhere. It’s dark because we are relying on ‘pretty little lights’ to make it cosy.

Im living on cheese, crisps, party food and chocolate. I actually craved an orange earlier.

The constant rain and wind is getting me down, hurry up summer with good fresh food and sunshine.

Ive just ordered a food shop with fresh salads and meats and im going to start making my low carb meals / bread again.

Anyone else sick of this now??

I think the weather is making it even worse. If it was frosty and bright I would love it.

But constant rain, wind and grey skies is so depressing.

Our house looks like a bomb site too!

Lilithlogic · 29/12/2023 11:08

I've taken the decorations down, just left some lights up till the 6th and like yourself I've done a similar shopping order. If I never see a mince pie again, it will be too soon

Vistada · 29/12/2023 11:09

My god how are you coping?? Its so true theres always someone worse off than youself...

FFS You sound like a right laugh.

You have a house to decorate and shield you from the rain, you have money to spend on "party food". Your house is cluttered with "stuff" because I'm assuming you have people in your life who love you enough to give you gifts.

Jesus Christ get some perspective. And maybe dont be so bratty. Eat a bloody orange if you must but don't act so hard done by.

I have an end of December birthday which we treat as a totally distinct event from Christmas. Hence - tree, lights and all decorations came down today, house is free of clutter. I’ve driven 7 bags of recycling to the slip, donated 3 bags of clothes with large clear out, sold masses of junk on Facebook marketplace and clutter is GONE. All blankets and throws washed and dried.

Food is another matter. Fridge clearing out For a quick birthday/end of year getaway to a lodge and when we return new start from 2nd Jan.

Just scroll past ffs, it's a lighthearted post on an anonymous message board.

OP yes, I took the decorations down yesterday, packed up the Xmas food with long dates and have done a food shop of regular food. Feel so much better.

JustlikeElllie · 29/12/2023 11:12

I know what you mean. I love Autumn and Christmas but by the time Christmas Day has come and gone I'm so over Winter.

But get outside for some fresh air, have a good de-clutter, get some healthy food in as you have done.

I always use this in between time to have a massive declutter.

6 weeks and it will be getting lighter again.

Chilicabbage · 29/12/2023 11:13

Fresh nice food is available in shops throughout December too. We had plenty of fruit and veg throughout Christmas.
Maybe use it as lessons learned for next year and buy some instead of some of the load pf party food. 🤷

The weather is shite tho. Absolutely

Whataretheodds · 29/12/2023 11:13

The weather is depressing in the northern hemisphere at this time of year. It's one of the reasons the winter festivals came into being!

Nothing to stop you getting out every day for some fresh air and exercise and it doesn't need to be a big deal to eat a vegetable - It's perfectly OK to eat normal balanced foods for most meals and have a few celebratory meals and treat snacks. They taste better that way.

If the place is untidy it's fine to get everyone to do a turbo tidy-up. Uplifting music on for 30 mins or so and blitz the place.

Kaleidoscopeofbutterflies · 29/12/2023 11:15

Vistada.. you do realise how this works?
People can still feel fed up and yet have empathy for other people.
It's not a competition.

Gosh are people not allowed to say anything for fear of upsetting someone?

All op is saying is that she's fed up of being in Christmas mode.

People are allowed to have a chat you know, about anything they want.

I don't see it as lighthearted, I see it as moaning. Sorry.

UserM6 · 29/12/2023 11:16

I’m fed up of the clutter too but haven’t got the energy to sort it all properly . I’m not taking the decorations down until New Year. DS is coming back for New Years Eve and I want it looking festive when he’s back.

With you on food although as we’ve been away there’s not too much crap floating around. Not buying more party food bits for New Years. It’s going to be a nice meal with vegetables. No spring rolls, no chips and dips and definitely no chocolate.

LlynTegid · 29/12/2023 11:17

Less party food next year, lesson learnt.

Wet weather in late December is not unusual but I get your point, OP. A bit of sympathy for dog walkers.

Kaleidoscopeofbutterflies · 29/12/2023 11:17

Yes l am.. taken my decorations down.
Ordered a delivery of salads etc.
Still got loads of choc.
Worse is I've pulled my back.. so along with that and my previous broken pelvis I can hardly move.. got cabin fever.

JustlikeElllie · 29/12/2023 11:19

Well op is allowed to moan. Perhaps the season is getting her down.

Sometimes after all the build up and excitement of Christmas we can feel a bit sluggish and in need of routine but it can be hard to snap back into normality.

Stop being so mean, people can speak about whatever they want you're not the thread police.

Charles11 · 29/12/2023 11:25

You've identified all the things that are bringing you down so deal with those things.

Make a salad or soup for lunch
Wait for a break in the rain, grab a raincoat and get out for a bit.
Have a family declutter session. Everyone put 10 items for charity in a bag.

I was feeling the same yesterday so I went out and met a friend for a walk and lunch. We both ordered salad.
I popped into the shops on the way back and bought lots of fruit and veg. Planning on cutting some fruit up and presenting a platter for a snack.

CarlaH · 29/12/2023 11:33

Don't worry soon people will along to tell you that you shouldn't eat salad in the winter. Then you can get back to the acceptable worrying about climate change.

Atriskofscurvy · 29/12/2023 11:44

It was intended to be lighthearted, I know we are fortunate to be in a position that I feel like this.
Sun has peeped through here and there is a bit of warmth in it. That made me feel better.

I'm not upset, and yes they most certainly are, and I am entitled to (as I would with any of my friends who said this to me) - say "have you heard yourself?"

I may have gone in a little harsh, OP - for that I'm sorry, but in the misery olympics that is mumsnet post christmas sometimes people need to be told "have you heard yourself"

Bowing out now

BigHoops · 29/12/2023 11:48

Totally get that 'over it's feeling. It's such a flat meh time isn't it? But if it helps...I have covid and am sick of feeling ill, food makes me sick and I'm going stir crazy! So it could be worse! I feel that the annual leave I was looking forward to has been wasted.

Definitely going to embrace January if nothing else...

ChristmasEvemaddness · 29/12/2023 12:20

Fed up with rain but the house is cosy and gorgeous

Candycurrantbun · 29/12/2023 12:25

I'm taking my decorations down today. I'm also sick of party food and clutter. I've been for a long walk today because it was finally dry this morning. Although it's clouding over now and it will probably rain again this afternoon.

Roll on spring.
